I understand if the movie has more cussing in it then yeah you do not want to hear it, but going to look up how many times they say the word just to win an "argument" is a little anal. They could say a word a 1000 times, does that mean you will say it?

First of all, you are agreeing with a quote that blatantly disregards 1 Corinthians ch 5. The Bible clearly teaches that we are not supposed to judge those outside the faith, but that we are supposed to hold each other accountable within the fellowship of believers. We can't know a person's heart, but we can judge a tree by it's fruit.

Secondly, you say that it's just opinions, and that we shouldn't point out facts. It is pointing out facts that specifically moves us away from opinions. And it doesn't take much time to look up how much profanity is in a movie if a website like Plugged In Online does it for you.

Thirdly, you say that hearing a word 1000 times won't make you say it. And while this is true, it is based on the false conclusion that your thoughts, words, and deeds are not at all affected by the environment that you allow yourself to live in. There are many people on this forum who can testify to the fact that their lives have been affected for both good and bad based on the music they listen to, the movies they watch, and the people they hang out with most often.

This was well written and is spot on Prof. Good job. Specifically the fact that our environment influences our thoughts. Plugged In Online is a wonderful website. I read it before seeing any movie.

Yes. However, one scene was blatantly over the top. Life has sexual condentations, so I can accept some of those logical placed in a storyline to enhance the story and themes, but I can not accept the one scene they put in there over the top. I'll never encourage anyone to see it, even though it was definately on the best stories I've ever seen. It's just no worth my integrity. I admit I made a mistake seeing it because I wasn't educated enough about it. My friends were just going so I went. I'm not a huge fan of the christian reviews, but they are helpful in telling me whether or not there is porn in the movie (which there is in Watchmen). I amde a mistake,

QFT. In none of those examples but one is causation even remotely established, and in some cases it was blatantly obvious that the "media influenced" actions would have taken place anyway, but maybe in a different fashion.

1) My dad, when we were kids, saw a movie in the theater with my mom that had a curse word repeated a lot. They sat through the movie and the word got drilled into his head. A little while later, my brother and I were in the car with him. One of us was acting up and he said the same curse at us out of frustration. He felt so guilty afterward that he pulled over to the side of the road and apologized to us.

2) When I use to play Burnout with a friend a lot, I truly did have the desire to knock cars off the road and ram them into other cards

3) When my wife and I had the CSI marathon, after a few days, I was actually enjoying figuring out different ways we could die and how it could be used for the show

4) Just because you end up not cursing, the more you listen to it, the more you have to fight it back from coming out.

5) How many people have come to Christ or have grown stronger in him by movies like Passion and Facing The Giants (but they must all be fooled because movies have no effect on us).

6) My brother, after seeing the first matrix movie, actually laid on the ground and tried to rise up like Agent Smith did in the subway fight.

7) You must realize how influenced young people are (especially teenagers). They see something cool and they want to imitate it. Some people, however, are extremely extraverted so they always act out their imitating to the extreme. You can't blame them because that's how God made them. However, it was their choice in what to enter into their minds that made them do the terrible things they did (lucky for me, I'm an introvert (else I would not be alive today (but that's another topic all together))).

It one o'clock so I become less withdrawn from typing my rants/craziness. Take my list as however you want to take it. My point was that regardless of what you might think, tons of research and tons of experiences say that you are what you watch/listen too and what you play.

Wow... I never felt these kind of urges, and I just saw 'The Taking of Pelham 123" and another movie that uses the f word a LOT.

I disagree. The more I hear people curse the more I think of how stupid they sound. In fact, 90% of times I hear someone curse I say sarcastically, "wow... he's so cool!"

I can't think of any. When I saw Facing the Giants I just thought how sad it was that Christians don't have a budget to make a good movie.

Did Burnout implant that desire in you? Because it seems to me that if you played that game to begin with, you must already have imagined what it would be like to be able to do that, hence why you thought the game would be fun to play.

We all think it would be cool to be able to do something that is actually beyond our abilities. The fact that you are completely unable to just go voooop and go from your back to a standing position illustrates the fantasy and "wow" factor of the agent's ability.

I agree that humans can be a gullible lot, and I agree that we should use discernment in what we allow to influence our thinking and behavior. But the point is that we CAN use discernment. I encourage people to choose wisely what to do with their time but I worry about throwing out the baby with the bathwater, stifling our innate desire to imagine things that don't exist or that we would not do ourselves. A deeper knowledge of humans can arise from efforts to understand their actions and motivations, and some of our most amazing advances have come from imaging the impossible, and then making it possible. 40 years ago, the idea of flipping open a device the size of your palm and talking to someone in space was a fantastical idea. Today there are nearly four billion cell phones criss-crossing the planet, and I don't think it's an accident that a lot of them are designed to flip vertically from a hinge on the top.
