Whoa! We just had a 5.0 magnitude earthquake in Los Angeles (the epicenter was about a mile east of LAX, which is 35 miles Southeast of the Nats 09 location... Google Earth link). Pretty good one... shaky enough to climb under a table, but not crazy enough for the books to fall.

I was studying in one of the student union buildings and nobody even moved. We're all used to it, I suppose.

I doubt I would've noticed the quake (I live on a busy street with frequent buses and trucks going by), except that I'm only a couple miles south of the epicenter, giving me the full experience. Not nearly as exciting as being on the third floor of an old office building during a quake like I was last year, but enough of a shake to move away from the doorway*.

*Reference to the fact that the only two CA earthquake fatalities since Northridge happened because a doorway collapsed on them as they ran through it trying to get outside.

It was intended to reference your remark that hinted you'd like God to wait on you to live life before He ends the world (or so it seemed to me).

Well, I don't really buy into the current trends in Christian eschatology, but besides that I was more implying that I didn't particularly think that the world ending was something to be looked forward to.

It's like saying "isn't is awesome that a kid brought a gun to school and shot a bunch of people! Those people get to go to heaven!"

Colin, is it possible to look forward to eternity while still being content (or even happy) to work for the gospel in the now? I know you were joking about playing the harp, but if eternity with God does not appeal to you, why be a Christian?

Not that I want to scare everyone away from Nats 09... but we just had another quake... a 3.9 about a mile from me (USGS link), though it was probably just a late aftershock. It was very quick, and doubt I would've even noticed it if we hadn't had the one on Sunday.

Yes. Heaven is the eternal party after your team wins the big game. You get to remember how God used all the heroes around you to rescue many of the others around you. You get what we all crave: intimacy with our victorious creator/coach/savior/king/etc.
