Whoa! We just had a 5.0 magnitude earthquake in Los Angeles (http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Quakes/ci10410337.htm) (the epicenter was about a mile east of LAX, which is 35 miles Southeast of the Nats 09 location... Google Earth link (http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Quakes/ci10410337.kml)). Pretty good one... shaky enough to climb under a table, but not crazy enough for the books to fall.
-
wow, I'm going to LA tomorrow....
-
My friend was 2.5 miles from it. :P
-
I didn't even feel it.
-
I was studying in one of the student union buildings and nobody even moved. We're all used to it, I suppose. :P
-
cause God says the more earthquakes the closer the end times come.
And that's a good thing? I'm sorry, but I'd like to live my life, get married, and have kids whom I can raise in peace, thank you very much. As appealing as playing the harp may be to you, it's not very appealing to me in the least.
-
And I wanted a pony. But that never happened.
I doubt I would've noticed the quake (I live on a busy street with frequent buses and trucks going by), except that I'm only a couple miles south of the epicenter, giving me the full experience. Not nearly as exciting as being on the third floor of an old office building during a quake like I was last year, but enough of a shake to move away from the doorway*.
*Reference to the fact that the only two CA earthquake fatalities since Northridge happened because a doorway collapsed on them as they ran through it trying to get outside.

Well, but that certainly wasn't a good thing because it means that the world is going to end?
-
It was intended to reference your remark that hinted you'd like God to wait on you to live life before He ends the world (or so it seemed to me).

Well, I don't really buy into the current trends in Christian eschatology, but besides that I was more implying that I didn't particularly think that the world ending was something to be looked forward to.
It's like saying "isn't is awesome that a kid brought a gun to school and shot a bunch of people! Those people get to go to heaven!"
-
Colin, is it possible to look forward to eternity while still being content (or even happy) to work for the gospel in the now? I know you were joking about playing the harp, but if eternity with God does not appeal to you, why be a Christian?
-
Are we still going to hold nationals in SoCal if it slides into the ocean?

Scuba Redemption 2.0!

Laminate your cards just in case.

Is it about what's more appealing or what is correct?
-
Considering the options are not mutually exclusive, I would say both.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.
-
Not that I want to scare everyone away from Nats 09... but we just had another quake... a 3.9 about a mile from me (USGS link (http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Quakes/ci10411545.htm)), though it was probably just a late aftershock. It was very quick, and doubt I would've even noticed it if we hadn't had the one on Sunday.

Eh, never mind. I'm not sure what I was getting at, either.

In heaven, we will have unlimited Son of Gods and New Jerusalems in our Decks.... ::)

This is actually a great analogy.
Would this make a fun game?
-
Depends on if you're playing by the same set of rules in both instances.
Hint: you're not.
-
Hint 2: those cards are pointless, since there are no lost souls in heaven.

So we are all winners?
-
Yes. Heaven is the eternal party after your team wins the big game. You get to remember how God used all the heroes around you to rescue many of the others around you. You get what we all crave: intimacy with our victorious creator/coach/savior/king/etc.
-
Yes, but after playing the big game, does anybody REALLY want to go out for ice cream after? I mean, does that really sound appealing to anybody?
;)
-
No, cuz...I'M GOING TO DISNEYLAND!!
:P
