Trying to Figure Some Stuff Out

I'm at a point in my life right now where I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do for the rest of my life. The plan I'd set up for myself for 2-3+ years (major in psychology, go to graduate school to get a doctorate in counseling) doesn't seem as appealing as it did when I first started college, and I'm starting to look in other directions. For the last couple weeks, I've been seriously thinking about switching my major to political science, and my original thought was that I'd do that with the intention of either going to law school or simply becoming a paralegal or otherwise getting into government at some point. However, I came across something tonight that would allow me to get certification in secondary education (7-12) in conjunction with a political science degree. Teaching (specifically at the high school or, ideally, university level) is something that's also recently caught my eye since I started college, especially when you hear so much about how fulfilling teaching is, despite the low pay.

I guess I really just don't know exactly what I want to be when I grow up, and I'm at that point in my college career where I have to figure it out relatively quickly, or risk having to take an extra year of school. For those of you who do teach, especially at the high school (or higher) level, can you send me a PM if you have the time? I have all sorts of questions. Brad, if you happen to see this, would you mind asking Gretel if she'd submit to questions? Otherwise, please pray; it's a bit unsettling to go from having this whole big plan laid out to considering getting a degree in teaching (something I'd have never considered in a million years not a year ago), so I need wisdom and discernment here.

Thanks everyone.

For what it's worth I'm dropping out of college after this semester so you are not alone in your confusion/frustration/whatever

I've decided to become a leprechaun. But seriously, I know that feel. I was in school for poli-sci to go into law, but now I'm on track to be a teacher.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

College is not only for getting a degree but finding out what your career will end up being.  I changed majors twice in a two year span.  Nothing to worry about.  Just take some classes in the field that you think you are turning to and see how they go.

Oh the irony... I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, but I found that counseling careers are 90% paperwork. That did not appeal to me, so I thought about being a School Counselor. The same dilemma appeared when I started talking to (then) current School Psychologists. At some point I decided that a classroom teacher has more opportunities to counsel students than a counselor does.

The real twist was that I wasn't sure what to teach. I loved History and Art, but I was always good in math. I remember at some point looking through my high school yearbook and seeing a quote handwritten by my Calculus teacher. He said that I have a lot of potential in math that I should pursue. The rest is, well, history.....  ;)

Teaching (specifically at the high school or, ideally, university level) is something that's also recently caught my eye since I started college, especially when you hear so much about how fulfilling teaching is, despite the low pay.

Teaching is very fulfulling, but the pay is not that low for a single person. The difficult part is knowing that I have very little growth potential. The current pay structure for teachers in public schools indicate that you will make just about the same salary for the first 10 years. This became problematic with each successive child that I had.  :o

I guess I really just don't know exactly what I want to be when I grow up, and I'm at that point in my college career where I have to figure it out relatively quickly, or risk having to take an extra year of school.

If you can afford it, this isn't catastrophic. I took two years off after high school, then went to the University of New Hampshire for two years, then took another year off, then went to Liberty University for two years, then changed my major,  and finally graduated from Liberty.
