Hey,

I just came home from watching this movie and I must say, it is epic! So if you have not seen it, go out and see it!

The Acting was superb... the pathetic fallacies, etc. It is also a very deep movie. I also liked the sermons, especially the Gossip one.

For those who have seen it... what do you think? Who do you think is right? What was Meryl Streep doubting--her faith in other people, God's presence, etc? What was the price she paid--resignation, just the price of sin, etc?
If Seymour wasn't guilty, why would he mention his confessions?
Is the black kid homosexual? Idk, but that's what went through my mind when his mom said he was beaten by his dad because of his nature.
What is Jimmy's role? Why was he the first one shown, and what made him tick off like that and say the other B word?
Why did the other kid, Landon??, pull his arm away from the priest? Does he know anything?
     What was the bulb's symbolism?
Why was the grammar from "is to was" so important?
Why was he promoted? What was the movie trying to say?
What do you think about Doubt and Certainty?

Lol aahh so many things... it's sooo awesome!

**BTW, Happy Birthday Elvis Presley

I vote that Father Flynn was innocent.  ;)

SAme. And your reasoning? Most people I asked were for him being guilty. The writer did nto want to say the answer in his interview, it was pretty interesting

I felt like the entire movie set you up to sympathize with Sister Aloysius, who is painted as the primary protagonist, rooting out evil in the Catholic schoolyards. You may not like her because she's tough and old-fashioned, but the writer wants you to think that she is the protagonist and Father Flynn is the antagonist. However, the final lines (always the most important) are "I have doubts! I have such doubts!"; that, along with the title itself, are meant to call into question everything you have thus far believed during the movie and paint the Father in perhaps a more sympathetic light.
