Is the right thing always the good thing?

Are you talking about conflicts between deontological ethics and virtue ethics?

What "good" is depends on how we choose to define it; it's subjective, not a universal.

Man, I thought RR was starting a Choose Your Own Adventure thread. I'm slightly disappointed.

good question! i have to say no because think of it this way.

say your a person who is trying to turn everyone to God. ok? well if you keep buging them about it and telling them about God when they dont wanna and ther telling you to stop and your not then what your trying to do is "good" but its not the "right" thing to do. cause then you just turn into a sadducee.

I would have to say that doing the right thing will always be a good thing, because if it's not good then it's not right.

 and tell them that they looked good when they really didnt
 which would be wrong because you lied
 but good because it made them feel good

...until the next person tells them the "truth" and then they feel really bad, and are mad at you for lying.

In this scenario, the real issue is how we define "looks good." By the world's standards, it is difficult for 80% of the world's population to "look good." If we could see people as more than what is on the outside, then Christians would look better and better.

Back to the original topic, the world's standard for "good" and "right" are skewed, so any answer will fall short. If we could see the world through God's eyes, there would be no question.

to kinda restate something thats already been said, all Superheroes do good. SAve peoples lives, defeat the bad guys, etc, there is no doubt about that.However in doing good, the break the law by first not letting the cops do their job and taking things into their own hands, and secondly not obeying the laws of the land. If Superman saves a little old lady from being shot, he's a hero. In real life, If I showed up in spandex and underwear and claimed I had superpowers, to save someone from being shot, I'd prolly be halled off to a luney bin, granted I didn't get shot myself.
Now that I'm done with that sidebar, I think whats good is determined not by society, but by a personal basis. I think Wrestling is good, where as some of you prolly don't agree with that. A triple layer chocolate cake is good for me, but not my friend who has diabetis. Is there anything inherently evil bout Wrestling or cake? No, its just a personal choice on what I enjoy or view as good. However, I think whats right is determined by God and His commandments. Like the big 10. We don't get to choose what is right, God does. And as long as what we think is good doesn't break any of His laws, we should be able to choose that for ourselves. Know what I'm saying?
