How old do you think Daniel the prophet was? When he was thrown in the lions' den, he was only fifteen or sixteen! :o Amazing huh?

I would love to see your scripture to back that up. I always thought of him in his early 20s by that time. he MIGHT have been a teen when he was interpreting Neb's dreams...

Think about it. Babylon went through lots of kings for many years, but Daniel was there with them all. Look at when he was captured by Babylonians and then look at when the Israelites got their land back. That was a LONG time. If he was old when he was in the lions den, he wouldn't have survived until the Israelites went to the remains of Jerusalem. ;)

Yeah, how do you know how old Danny was? He could have lived to be 200 for all we know.

In the Bible, Daniel was part of the "young men", which back then were trained to become wise men. It was basically school.

He was at least in his 60s, probably. He had lived through all of Nebuchadnezzar, (insert unnamed king here), and Belshazzar (who was only a regent) and was tossed in during Persian Rule. He was old.

When Daniel was initially taken captive by the Babylonians he was probably in his early teens.  Young enough to not yet be a military threat but also old enough to demonstrate worth to the Babylonians.  By the time he was thrown into the Lions Den I would guess him to be in his 60's.  He does die an old man but not 200 yrs old. I know that God can do anything but God makes it pretty clear that after the flood mankind would not have that same extended length in life any more.
I never want to grow up, hmmm maybe thats why I'm a youth pastor.

Remember when that one king (I don't know his name) issued that law that said you only can worship the king? Daniel was a teen at that time. Some time after that Daniel was discovered praying to God. He was a teen when he was in the lions' den.

Just because your pastor was speechless doesn't mean your viewpoint is true.

I didn't want to do this, but now I am forced to. In the book of Daniel, Daniel was selected for special training as a wise man. In the book of Daniel, he was "among the young men", saying he was pretty young. The Bible is accurate, so young man must have been from either 10 to 14 or so. If he really was an old man when he was thrown in the den, he wouldn't have survived when that Persian dude took over.

Unlike most people here, I embarass people who are wrong. If your pastor was educated in a seminary, that seminary needs to be shut down.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=daniel%201&version=31

Daniel 1 establishes he was a young man, taken 3rd year of King Jehoiakim, which is 606 BC, according the wiki dates.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaldean_Dynasty#Neo-Babylonian_dynasty

This link has dates of Babylonian (chaldean) kings. Notice that there is no "Belshazzar" who is mentioned as the last king in Daniel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belshazzar#Contemporary_Babylonian_sources

This link explains his significance, as well as the reason Bel only promised Daniel 1/3 of the kingdom for his dream interpretation. Since Bel really only had 1/2, that was his best offer.

Now, next event is the Fall of Babylon in Daniel 5 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=34&chapter=5&version=31

This occured in 539 BC. That makes Daniel (606(teen years)-539) around 80.

Finally, in Daniel 8/9 it is established that Darius is ruling (Darius the Mede is a local official). This is when Daniel is thrown in. Therefore, he is at least 80, probably older.

Moral of story: Gandalf the White. Fail.
