1 Pound Cheddar Cheese
4 Sticks Butter (Unsalted)
1 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
5 Cups Flour

Cream together Cheese, Butter, Salt, and the Cayenee then incorporate the flour until you have a stiff dough. Chill for at least 30 minutes then roll out the dough. Cut short strips of varying thickness then bake for 13-15 minutes at 375 degrees.

This is Southern Cheese Straws and they are fantastic.

Why not just use Salted Butter?

Interesting. There is typically a quarter teaspoon of salt per stick in salted butter, so the salt total should have been the same. I'll have to test that in some recipes some time to see how much of a difference it makes.  ;D

You had me at hello 1 lb of cheese and 4 sticks of butter.

I made a cake yesterday that had instructions to make your own caramel to top the cake.  Ingredients:
2 c. Brown sugar
2 c. (4 sticks) butter
1 c. Heavy cream
2 t. Salt

Best. Caramel.  Ever.

If You gave Your life to love them so will I

Pepper Jelly

3/4s of a cup chopped, seeded Jalepenos
3/4s of a cup chopped seeded green bell pepper
1 and 1/2 cups of white vinegar (10% acidity or lower)
6 cups sugar
6 oz liquid pectin
green food coloring

pulse the peppers and vinegar in a food processor. Then bring to a boil on the stove, then dissolve the sugar into the mixture. Add pectin and food coloring, stir, then let stand five minutes. Seal into half-pint jars.

This stuff is amazing. I like to serve it with crackers over cream cheese.

I love this thread. And that it's been read over 200 times. The food sounds great as well. I can't wait to try the breakfast tacos.
