In my almost 8 months of living here I have been witness to already 18 inches of snow, and another 18-24 on the way...this is ridiculous. Pray that Gretel is going to be able to get out of school so she doesn't have to drive before the storm starts tomorrow morning...Here is the latest from weather.com about the winter storm warning we have now:

TIMING... SNOW WILL BEGIN MID-MORNING FRIDAY... AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING. CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE RAPIDLY FRIDAY AFTERNOON... WITH HEAVIEST SNOWFALL OCCURRING BETWEEN SUNSET FRIDAY TO SUNRISE SATURDAY. THE MOST HAZARDOUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR FRIDAY NIGHT... WHEN THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO BELOW ONE-QUARTER MILE... PRODUCING NEAR-BLIZZARD CONDITIONS

THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE SIMILAR TO THE 19 DECEMBER STORM. PLAN FOR SUBSTANTIAL DISRUPTIONS TO TRAVEL FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

Pray for everyone to be safe this weekend, and that people only make neccessary travels

Whoever told you that MD doesn't get snow lied to you. The big snows are definitely abnormal but we have rarely gone a winter without one snow that gets over 4 inches. Most winters we have between 5-10 snows. They normally don't get over 3 inches in the DC metro area(where you are) but because there are so many people it makes it very difficult and often dangerous to be out on the roads. In general, snows that come from the south are the ones that dump the most.

Yeah, this is the first winter in YEARS that I can remember getting this much snow... Global Cooling going on or something?

It's my fault. Where I used to live in NY always get a large amount of snow a year. We averaged about 3 storms every two weeks between 1-3 feet with a few big ones(6-8 feet) thrown in. Then I moved to Maryland and the weather has gotten snowy. I may be the cure for Global Warming, every where I move the snow comes to!

My sister lives in Maryland, and she is just ecstatic about all the snow they've gotten this season (she loves snow). So, yes, Maryland definitely does get snow

Good idea. For future reference, the north pole is too far for me to go for a tournament.

Ok, serious update now. Gretel has to work till 12 tomorrow because the school won't cancel. She doesn't have a lot of driving experience in snow, so naturally we are both concerned and covet your prayers. I will update you when she's home safe!

The roads don't usually get really bad until late at night when the cars are off the road. Until then it will be a lot of slush. Be sure to change lanes early.

If it helps any it looks as if the worst of the storm will arrive between 1-4 so if they let her out at noon the roads shouldn't be to bad, but I'm praying all the same. In regards to the storm I have my 50lb bag of salt, a good shovel, and plenty of stored food so I say bring it! I am from upstate NY I fear no snow storm as long as it stays below 11 feet, that's the most I have personally ever had to deal with.

I am bummed, I got all ready for this storm and it's almost noon and not a measly flake!!! I hope it dumps on us tonight because I sure didn't get ready for a storm for nothing. BRING ON THE SNOW ALREADY!
