The Big East will get no love, unless they have a former NFL coach. Cincinnati has a new head coach and new QB (Tony Pike is gone), so their omission was expected.

I am surprised that the University of Washington is not on there, with a potential Heisman-candidate QB. Expect there to be more Huskies (UConn!) in the Top 25 after a few weeks of the season.

Cincy is 24 in the College Football Live Preseason Poll FWIW.

I agree with all of that except UC.  Zach Collaras was better even than Tony Pike when Pike was injured.  While the New coach factor didnt hurt USC much..let alone the bowl bans and lack of recruiting power due to stripped scholarships...I dont see why last years #2 has to fall completely out of the picture.

Boise State should be number 2, so I don't even wanna hear about your hometown bias ;). Apparently returning 21 starters from an undefeated team isn't good enough for number 2 when your Boise State.

I agree with Pitt being ranked.  They were the best team in the Big East last year and will be this year as well.  Cincy was just a fluke.

And I also agree with YMT about both Huskies getting ranked in the near future.

...and Nebraska at 8... really???  I think there's some 90's bias in the ranking groups (cough* Notre Dame *cough)
Gates of Hell is by far the best card in the game.  No questions asked.

Comparing Cincinnati with USC is apples to oranges when it comes to the media. The only thing the pollsters remember is Florida trouncing the Bearcats. Cincinnati had to go undefeated during the regular season just for the pollsters to squeak them into the top 10. Unfortunately, the Big East struggles with getting contracts against the top teams.

Zach is good, maybe even great, but he does not have a full year under his belt. The new coach is from Central Michigan U., which is a vertical shift, as opposed to a lateral coaching shift at USC.

Considering the Big East lost their three best teams - Miami, Va Tech and BC - to the ACC five-ish years ago, I think they should consider themselves fortunate to have three ranking-worthy teams at all this year.  WVU has been the class of the conference since then, but it's nice to see Pitt and UC finally catching up.  I honestly thought the conference was dead after that realignment, kind of like how the Big 12 narrowly avoided extinction this summer.

I agree completely, especially ironic since current Big East teams have ended up ranked higher than the three teams that left. The recruiting for teams like UConn and Rutgers increased greatly as well. The only fear that the Big East has now is the looming threat of being taken out of the automatic BCS bid.

Yeah, just when they're starting to get good, right?

If the Big 12 had been decimated as some thought might happen, they might both have been booted and thrown the whole system into disarray while the committee either assigns new conferences (the MAC?) or reworks their formula for selecting teams.

For my part, anything that disrupts or destroys the BCS format would be all right with me.  I have not been very impressed with the matchups they created most years, and even though they say the "real" objective is to set up the 1-2 game, even only two or three of those have been really memorable.  And that's difficult for me to say, as a Buckeye fan who saw my team play in probably THE most memorable one, but also play in two very forgettable title games.

The rankings this early don't mean a whole lot.  They do help the non-BCS teams, but for the BCS teams, if you win a lot, you'll be fine.  Week 2 is what i'm looking forward to.

p.s. I also agree cincy should at least be in the top 25, that backup QB was a stud last year.
My Teams: Atlanta Braves, NY Giants, Miami Hurricanes Football, Duke Basketball, Cleveland Cavs
