User Poll: forum "sidebar"?

Thought I would post this poll separately from the "front page" poll, since I believe I can do either one separately, in case people like some but not all of its functionality.

I vote yes on this even stronger than the portal. Being able to quickly view the latest posts lets me keep current with the quick posting hours.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

i thought this was the same as the front page portal. whats the difference?

The software is the same but the implementation is slightly different.  Snaps of each have been added to the OP of their respective polls.

By design, most of the same information is on the front page and sidebar, to heighten visual and informational consistency.

The front page has a user info block, a list of who's online, and an option to change themes on the fly, in the left sidebar.  The "central" blocks consist of the rotating announcement at the top of the forum, recent topics, articles featured at random, a calendar view of upcoming events, and board stats.

The sidebar in the forum keeps the user info at the top and who's online at the bottom.  it also moves the recent topics and upcoming events into the sidebar as lists, as these are just as important to retain inside the forum as to feature them centrally on the front page.

There is a lot of flexibility as to what blocks to show where, so I believe that with a little work, I can retain the sidebar if there is enough desire to keep it, even if there is a large movement to take down the front page.  It was logical therefore to present the two options separately in order to divine the best desires of the users.

Hey,

I have found both the side bar and the front page to be entirely unhelpful.  So I closed the sidebar, changed my bookmark to go directly to the forum, and I almost forget they exist.

That's the other thing, is the option to shrink the sidebar away if they don't help.

Can you track who votes how many times? I have no reason at all for asking this or anything...  ::)

Who?  No.  How many?  As long as the OP leaves the max per user at 1, it won't matter.

This has been in place for a few months, but was taken down briefly to accommodate the Christmas theme for a few days.

ok, there's the reason that it disappeared.

I like the old one, as someone else said it was useful to see the latest post easily and it was a lot more easier to see who is online and being able to access your profile.
