TLG is the gold standard to match up trading value between cards.  It's not perfect for every card, but is a great way to establish equal value when trading.

Cash value for most cards is at most 50% of TLG prices.  Cards that are common or not playable (due to being bad cards) are frequently given away for the price of shipping.  If you were to list a large group of cards at 50% off TLG, the small group of high demand cards would probably sell; you'll probably have to discount further to sell more cards.

How about card grading in the redemption market. Ive noticed (not through trading on this forum as I havent yet)  that the scale tends to be less critical of mint and nm cards. Is this the case? My background in card grading comes from sports cards during my childhood and every thing from gloss to centering is looked at and I have not been impressed by what I have recived as "mint" (not from anyone on this forum to my knowlage). Is this a ccg thing or have I just had a streak of  "buyer beware".

Most people on here will tell you whether the cards are mint - near-mint and they'll pretty accurate for the most part. Typically if you want mint cards just post that along with your trade thread at the end. In other words just add something such as, "I'm looking for mint/near-mint cards only." But for the most part people on here keep their cards in good condition and you shouldn't be too worried about it.

I do think that the general game population is more lenient with card grading than perhaps sports card traders are.  While 3 Lions is VERY careful to make sure that their cards truly are mint in every sense of the word, I think that most people would consider a card that they just opened from a pack to be in mint condition even if the printing was slightly off center.
