If anyone here knows this company, what is your opinion of it--their products, hiring tactics, and working for it? I applied for the company, got hired, and will have my training in 3 days... but now I'm starting to think it's a scam. Anyone had experiences with this company?

Cutco is a legit company.  I have never worked for them myself, but I know at least a half dozen people that have.  Working for them, you will make in-home presentations of the knives to homeowners and try to convince them to buy the knives.  You get a nice commission from each sale.  One of the best ways to do well is to have your parents talk to all of their friends and convince them to let you give a demonstration.  You will also do door-to-door sales, where you try to convince random homeowners.  I worked door-to-door sales for a home improvement company for 2 years.  You can make a ton of money without working many hours.  For example, I averaged over $32.75 an hour for my entire two years working door-to-door sales.  I made more money than all of my friends, working less than half the time that they did.  God blessed me in door-to-door sales, and He will bless you too, if you choose to honor Him through it.

The key is perseverance.  It is not the job for you if you can't deal with rejection.  You will have people slam the door in your face, yell at you, and treat you horribly.  But if you can put on some thick skin and be determined, it can give you a really nice check.

Cutco has a great product.  In the past, I was leery as to the quality of the knives.  However, my roommate this past year at college used to work for Cutco and got a free set of knives at one point.  I got to use them on a weekly basis for cooking, and they are the nicest knives I have ever used.  If you have a good product, you are golden for sales.  They are expensive, but quality does come at a price.  Personally, I don't have the money to buy such knives at this stage of my life, but many people do.

Only 8% of people can do door-to-door sales, as its not easy.  But it is very rewarding.  It is a great ministry opportunity as well.  Most of the guys I worked with had few morals and did whatever they pleased.  Some salespeople are also dishonest in their dealings or seek to rip people off.  Nonetheless, salespeople are really good at what they do.  It drives many of them to become prideful, thinking they are the absolute best at what they do.  By approaching sales in a way that glorifying God, you will have a unique opportunity to witness to those around you.  Salespeople always look at who is doing well and see what they can do to mirror the success of the other.  Therefore, they will want to know how you do so well, and you can share that it is through your faith in God and your desire to honor Him through your actions.  It was definitely my mission field for the past three years and there need to be more Christian salespeople in the world today.

Let me know if you want any more information.  I realize this post was all over the place, but I hope that gives you some insight.

A couple things you should do.  Ask what all the bonus opportunities are.  You can make a ton of money from hitting certain sales goals.  If you aren't aware of the bonuses, they aren't required to pay them to you.  You can also suggest additional bonuses for weekly performance, etc.  I suggested bonuses on a weekly basis and made hundreds of extra dollars each week by doing so.

Hey,

Thanks man. I'm definitely going to keep that advice as I go in for training tomorrow. I might reject the job because it is fishy, but I'll try to stick out for a while, and not jump into conclusions.
