An Open Letter to Moderators and other Kids and/or Adults
« on: August 21, 2011, 01:11:24 AM »

Dear Moderators and other Kids and/or Adults,

Thank for taking the time to read this open letter.

Following the conclusion of a very powerful thread conerning the majestic buffalo, it has come to my attention that I may be getting unfairly targeted because I chose to recently exercise my free speech on another topic concerning the abuses/lack of abuses and modding/lack of modding that is going on in this forum.

I would like to ask the mods why the following threads (which are spam and/or trolls) did not get deleted, but mine did.

http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/is-there-a-jesus-card/
http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/i-have-an-announcement/
http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/trolling-is-a-art-it-needs-to-be-respected/
http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/

Was I unfairly targeted because I have questioned the man? You decide.

Is Sauce unfairly allowed to run amuck because he's hilarious? You decide.

Is it tomato or tomato? I say tomato.

And when I say deleted, I mean locked. This is an edit.

You brought to our attention that we need to crack down on spam more. We are now beginning to crack down spam more. Those were different days.

Also, I'm still whining about my pick up lines thread.  I put a lot of work into that.  Deleted with no reason given.

Heck, I barely count as a mod.  I wasn't one when that happened.

I'm a mod in Runescape. I use to be a forum mod too. Does that count for anything?

I've been several times a forum mod. It's irrelevant that I owned very forum I have modded.

RSOF have like 250K posters a week or something. And I was trusted to judge each person before I was demodded for spamming. I think it's clear why I'm the best candidate for Admin here.

Did you actually get demodded? That'd be pretty epic.

I'm in the same boat. I have no idea why I was chosen a mod, as I have an extremely questionable history, and am not a model member as it is, but I love TEAMS too much, and it's actually helped my spam less, and this is a long sentence.

Not really. I was originally an fmod but I asked to be a pmod instead (they only let you be dual if you know a foreign language and post on that language's forum. RS doesn't have a Siswati forum yet). It all worked out because I disliked the Jmod who was in charge of the fmods.

Why can't you dualmod? Is it because they know the danger of powercreep?

If anyone recognizes Hero as a mod it's me. He VANDALIZED my otherwise informative post.

But in all seriousness, I am curious why we lock threads about buffalo but not threads about trolling. Since it's already been all but admitted the rules on this forums are pretty much useless, I don't see what that thread did (the buffalo) that was bad. It was a lot of fun, and like Prof U said, some creative humor was used. Obviously, if I thought the thread was against the rules, I would not have posted it. But, it doesn't seem to be.

I didn't find it that obvious.

I think this is the main point of all of this. We can't suck all the fun out of the boards by deleted every topic and post that isn't serious or on topic. Otherwise nobody would enjoy these boards, and YMT's and STAMP's epic posts would disappear. Nobody wants that. At the same time, the boards cannot be overrun by spam, or else it will be chaotic and really not that fun (especially for the mods). There needs to be a gray line.

That's funny because I posted the thread and I thought the point was I am being unfairly persecuted ;)

"All of this" doesn't refer to only this thread. It refers to the Rule Breakerz thread, your buffalo troll thread, and this thread, as well as another thread...

I would like to ask the mods why the following threads (which are spam and/or trolls) did not get deleted, but mine did.

http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/is-there-a-jesus-card/
http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/i-have-an-announcement/
http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/trolling-is-a-art-it-needs-to-be-respected/
http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/off-topic/what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/
The first thread was a common question by a new member, and answers to that question.  It did go a bit astray, but was over quickly.
The second thread was an apology for trolling, and was also from 2 years ago.
The third thread was completely full of spam and deserved to be locked.  But it was from over a year ago as well, and I couldn't do anything about it back then.
The fourth thread was only 2 posts, looking for someone.  I don't see the problem there.

Was I unfairly targeted because I have questioned the man? You decide.
Sure you painted a target on you by pointing out the lack of consistency in rules enforcement.  However, I am trying to be consistent in enforcing the rules whether it is you or anyone else creating a thread that is full of spam or flaunting the forum rules.

Is Sauce unfairly allowed to run amuck because he's hilarious? You decide.
I think an occasional "spam but funny" post by Sauce or you or YMT or anyone else in a thread is not a problem, and in fact adds to the overall enjoyment of the forum.  It is when a thread is full of that, and appears to be enlarging at a high rate of speed, that it gets my attention.

If that's the case, all of the forum games would be shut down. I was fairly outspoken about the NYTO thread, but do we seriously want no more massive fun threads?

The first thread asked if there is a Jesus card. Jesus is the Son of God. Every Starter has Son of God. How is asking that question not a troll even if it is a new member? Trolls can be unintentional.

The fourth thread is definately spam. It has like a million exclamation points. That's classic spamming technique.

I am going to have to ask what rules?

I don't really understand the difference between them. Transcribing that philosophy into real life tells me that if I kill one person a day for 100 days, you don't care, but if I kill 100 in one day, you do.

Either we should be able to have that kind of fun, or we shouldn't. That just makes sense.
