Title: A joke! A joke!
Post by: lightningninja on December 11, 2009, 09:04:48 PM
What's the difference between an SUV and a golf ball? Tiger woods can drive a golf ball 400 yards.

Were you there? Do you know anything besides what the media has said? Did you read any of Tiger's last 3 press releases? Leave the man alone, he commited a sin, just like the rest of us do, he asked that it remain private, so respect his wishes.

Why defend the adulterer? I hate cheating and I'm glad he's leaving golf.

+1 with Pol in the fact that adulteration is something that should be abhored but at the same time everybody is human. Just give him a chance to learn from his mistakes and correct them. If he doesn't well then it goes back to the old phrase "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me."

Why defend the thief, why defend the murderer, why defend the heckler, why defend anyone, thats your logic, that some sins are greater than others, they're not. Tiger obviously knows he messed up, he's taking steps to correct the situation, so do the christian thing and forgive him.

Actually,
Quote
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
-Matthew 7:1-2

I'm not worried about being judged on my fidelity, so there it is.

I don't disagree that he should be given a chance, but to rush so quickly to defend him is silly.

What was a joke turned into a serious conversation. O well.

In deference to Prof Underwood (and in a nod to another series of posts), I will respond using a passage he feels is under utilized on these boards...

Quote from: 1 Corinthians 5:12-13
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."

I'm not sure a Christian has standing to judge Tiger Woods. He is a Buddhist and therefore outside the church. Paul tells us that judging those outside the church is not our business but God's.

I must admit that I am impressed with yesterday's decision. Two days ago I read that his wife had given him an ultimatum - "If you want to save our marriage, then quit golf." The very next day he announces his "indefinite leave" from golf.

This is beginning to sound a lot like the movie Fireproof.

These are both true statements.  I don't know that I agree with the way they came across to me when I read them, which was 'we all get to run our own lives the way we want with no accountability - so but out.'  I appoligize if that was not how you meant it.

Tiger's life is his own and that is exactly the problem.  He has not given his life to Christ.  He has no reason not to sin, he is not pursuing to become more like Christ and Budha doesn't care because he's dead.

Most of the conversation here has been about his sin.  I don't condone his sin, and believe it is getting to much attention, mainly because he's an "Idol" and the media thrives on it.  The truth is I am just as much a sinner.  No, I haven't committed adultry physically, but what about my heart?  Read Mat 5:28

I would encourage you to join me in praying for Tiger and his family.  I can't imagine how tough it would be to be the highest paid sports figure in the world and try to stay humble; to be able to come to the point where you understand that you don't have the the most important thing in the world - while the world is telling you you have everything.

Pray for his salvation and that he would use his postion of fame to glorify Christ.

jc

Ah, I thought he claimed Christianity. If he's a Buddhist then it's to be expected. So never mind my previous comment.

I couldn't help but smile when I read this.  And I agree with jc, that praying for Tiger's salvation is probably the best response to this situation.
