And in order to spend your time on those things, you'd probably need to... turn off the TV?
precisely :) It takes no time at all to stop doing something.

There is no correlation to giving up TV and being able to be involved with the important issues.

I first learned about sponsoring a child while watching TV.  Would you have it be so that I would not begin sponsoring a child?

I first learned about the genocide in Sudan while watching TV.  Would you have me be ignorant of a clear injustice and not be able to encourage involvement to stop it?

The Billy Graham Phone Center has had over 1 million people call in seeking prayer and/or wanting to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior because they were watching TV.  Would you have it be so that those people never got ministered to?

So what does it hurt you for him to give up the TV?

I learned about it from the back of a CD.  Some kids learned about it from a promotional playing card, or from a famine sponsored by their youth leader.

If you're incapable of picking up a newspaper or accessing Internet news sites, sure, be as ignorant as you please.

You continue to miss the very simple and constructive message he's putting forth.  Why is it so important to you to shut him down on this?

Two reasons.  The first is that I disagree that television is something that needs to be given up on something more than a personal/individual basis.  Second is that the clearly more important things seem to be a getting a back seat when they should be at the forefront.

You don't have to give up TV he's just putting his thoughts out there and inviting other people to see if they agree, and  what  important things?

oh and as I said befor " good and bad sad but life" now I am 13 okay I go to the tv to watch alot of stuff because alot of stuff is on, okay PC's we can control...and tv we can also I mean theres very bad stuff on both (heck the pc is worse it doesn't have rating you can find any crap on it) but on the tv you CHOSE to watch what's on just like you CHOSE to play, watch,do on the pc.

It's like if i said " oh i'm watching this because the tv is making me?" NO! that's like saying "i'm watching this because my PC is making me" HECK both are harmful to us we don't need to throw around views why the tv is good or bad it's BOTH okay you can not watch tv if you want it doesn't matter to me (btw i went to a christian fest once NO tv NO pc for 4 days (not long i know) but still anyway it didn't bother me at all) but it's not a big deal and try to make something look evil when people know it's evil but it also is good it's a mix it's just like LIFE

okay i'm done...

The first is that I disagree that television is something that needs to be given up on something more than a personal/individual basis.

People can choose what they are going to do about TV based on his points.  I read them, understand a lot of them, agree with some of them, my TV watching (slim as it is) is not diminished.

He spent ten minutes typing a post on the Internet.  If that's critical time wasted from another critical issue, and he refuses to give it back to you, I will personally donate ten minutes of my time to hunger relief in central Ohio to make up for him.  Will that satisfy you?

Schaef, I'm pretty sure he's spent mroe than ten minutes defending this. Also, I believe Sean was making the point that he's busy making sure he doesn't watch TV instead of making sure he feeds the hungry or whatever. Forgive me if I'm wrong, Sean.

Do you believe that he is setting up a headquarters to run a campaign to stop TV watching across the nation?  If not, I suggest you argue the point and not the semantics.

To which I already responded that it takes no time or effort to not watch TV, you just don't do it, so there's nothing lost in doing so, and in fact, turning off the TV frees him up to take on these other efforts, so what's the big deal?

TV can be good and bad but really I think this is a bunch of pointless rambling, Sean, quit being cynical you've taken your opinion WAY to far, Schaef, you've fought Seans opinion WAY to much...if everybody will focus on the main point. To spend more time on godly things than worldly thing we'll all get along...some of us...no...most of us on this thread are acting way to immature stop the bickering and focus on the good intent that it was put forth with by Spy

Gandalf the White, here is just a little bit of forum ediquitte.  When a thread had been dead for a long time, please don't necropost (restart thread with no new info.)  It just isn't proper.

Just MHO, but you need to slow down on your posting.  Before you post, really ask yourself if your post (especially on old posts) contains new and interesting info.  If it doesn't, or it is just a "lol" or a "=D", don't post.  Don't spam, and people will love you. ;)

I know board etiquette can be difficult. For example, while necroposting is almost always bad, you will get yelled at for not necroposting if you create a new topic of something that has already been quite lengthily discussed. For example, at one point there were no fewer than five "favorite music" threads on the first few pages. But if you do necropost, it must be because you want to bring something new to a discussion. Bringing this back to chime in that your family has also gotten rid of TV is not a good reason to bring it back. Perhaps posting an article on the negative/positive effects of TV on this generation, along with accompanying text containing your own thoughts (a MUST when posting an article, simply giving a link and then saying "what do you think?" is annoying) would be a legitimate reason.

In other words, you'll get the hang of it eventually, as long as you listen to those who have been posting longer than yourself.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
