It usually surprises people when I tell them I don't own a TV. I haven't had regular access to a TV in about a year, but I still get to watch most (all?) shows I want online (through their networks' websites or occasionally on YouTube if they're not on the air or on DVD). Give me a game of Nexus Ops over that time spent watching TV any day.

I agree with the whole bad words in children programming it's getting worse and other things like "total drama island" at one point a girls top comes off..it's pixeled out but still the thought is there and it's a cartoon! I mean that should go into the same line with family guy...and not to mention how they try to work other suggestive things in cartoons

I pretty much only use the TV for movies and occasionally videogames. The computer however, I am on WAY more then infront of the TV.

I can think of a lot of more important things to champion than, "Throw away your TV!"

Family guy actually gives you a Parental warning though, Drama island doesn't

I disagree with you here.  Computers are even worse at presenting entertainment as important information -- blogs, user-generated videos and information, the web has been used poorly as a form of information distribution, as it is extremely hard to tell if you are getting fact or fable.  (The professor of the course said that the web also does a horrible job at trying to filter itself -- which TV at least tries to do.  He had an assignment where we compared a day w/o TV to a day w/o computers -- scary stuff.)

Nevertheless, computers can be used as tools that peoiple can interact with. Unfortunately, the same fact/fable problem can be said of TV as well. The web does a bad job of filtering because it is used to find things and accomplish tasks, but I understand your position well. I agree with you for the most part here, but there is a difference between TV's and computers that I want to shed light on: A TV throws random material at you; a computer assists you in your tasks and finds things for you that you search for.

I can think of a lot of more important things to champion than, "Throw away your TV!"

True, but that does not negate the importance of this idea, but only compares it to other things. The plan is so simple enough that you should not mind it being championed.

*wince* Well, I would love to. I will give it some thought, but I try to limit my computer time to spare my eyes from burning, and they do.

I do still watch tv regularly but I really only have two shows I actually make sure I watch (Heroes and Lost).  Most of the time, I'm either watching Fox news, something on Discovery, or Cosby show.

I never watched heroes. However, I enjoyed LOST until they tried to push the envelope of PC garbage. After that happened, I quit.

Yes, but can you really boycott for those things? And was I ever saying that the above issues are not important? NO! But nonetheless, the TV is a simple thing to just stop watching.

I really don't think there's any reason to be so harsh towards him for wanting to make a change in his life that he sees as potentially positive.  And if it is really that big of a deal, it's probably better handled in PMs.

I told you, we tried, however, unfortunately, we here at the Janissary polling institute like to maintain intelligence in our polls and so, it is not our fault that certain groups could not qualify/did not apply to participate in our polls.

The issue of TV is a triviality compared such things as sex trafficking, slave trade, genocide, hunger, homelessness, the simple fact that there are people who have not heard the truth of the Gospel, etc...

I'd rather spend my time with the things that are not trivial.
