Title: *OFFICIAL* Baseball Thread
Post by: STAMP on January 27, 2009, 06:57:36 PM
Since there are other members who would love to talk just about baseball, I am officially starting this thread.  I am not a moderator so if things get out of hand we'll contact one.

I'll start it off by stating my favorite team: the Los Angeles Dodgers.   :)

My favorite team is the Baltimore Orioles.  Favorite player ever, Cal Ripken.  Tim Kirkjian goes to my church.

I live in Pittsburgh. Can someone confirm me if our team is in the MLB? I've been to the park, and I've seen the games, but I still don't believe that lie.

LOL

My middle school was named after Roberto Clemente.  He was most certainly a Major Leaguer.

ANOTHER Tim who has a last name I can't pronounce?!?!   :D

As for your comment of why I left off Cal, in my defense it was only a quick list off the top of my head of things I could remember right away.  I forget when Cal retired but I do remember watching the game when he broke the record.  But I have to say that as much as I like Cal, I like Gehrig better.  And not because of any competition about the record.  Furthermore, the reasons I like Gehrig come from what I read and watch old clips.  I got to see all of Cal's career live.

As for the list, it's only the tip of the iceberg...   ;)

I was at the 2126(or 7) game.  It was pretty sweet.

I once saw a t-shirt that said "Even God hates the yankees." once in a Twins vs. Red Socks? game the people behind me were argueing to no end, and then they said "Well, apparently the only thing we can agree on is we don't want the yankees to win." I'd agree to that.

Twins all the way! sadly, Torii Hunter is gone, along with Corey (Koski?), Jaque Jones, Chris Carter (oh, is he football? he was awesome either way) and all the others I loved to see when I actually watched baseball.

Minnesota! Minnesota! *insert roar*

The Pirates are still alive and well, as far as I know.

If any baseball fan hasn't already, buy or rent Ken Burns' Baseball. (http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/baseball/)  It also comes in a book.

What does everyone think about A-rod?

Another overpayed baseball player who cheats to win.  What else is there to say?

Royals are my team (God bless them). Jermaine Dye is my player.

On an A-Rod note. I'd say that I think he's handling the situation much more maturely than any other play involved in some steroid scandal.

I grew up going to Fenway Park back when the Red Sox stunk and the Pirates & Royals were the team to beat. My how things how changed.  ;D

I like players that give 100% everyday: Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, and (yes I actually said it) Derek Jeter. This is the same reason that I could not stand Manny Ramirez.

As far as A-Rod, I still have a hard time believing that he used steroids in Texas because of all the "pressure to perform" but has stopped since playing for.... the Yankees? No more pressure playing for the Boss in the largest city in America?

I want to believe him, but I also wanted to believe Roger Clemens.

My dad went golfing with Roger Clemens once, actually. Said he was kind of a jerk.

Didn't A. Rod do steroids before they were illegal? If so, that puts it okay in my book.

What I was getting at is that I hope he is being sincere about not doing it in recent years.

Arod wouldn't be in trouble if they were legal.

Mark McGuire was in a similar situation.  He took Andro prior to it being put on the banned list.  Nobody says anything about that because it was legal when he took it.  People accuse McGuire now because of his responses while in front of congress.

Wasn't Manny injuring his hamstring just about the funniest spring training moment so far?   :D

Hey, I am a Cincinnati Red's fan and you can thank us al for Baseball since we were the FIRST professional Baseball team ever.

The yankees arent really a team, they are an entity that buys championships by cobbling together the greatest players ever soo its more like  a bunch of people instead of a team.

No, im sorry the pittsburg Pirates are not a MLB team.  they lost their status when the Steelers won their 7th Superbowl.  Pittsburg hates losers and demoted them to the minor leagues.

I like Pujols but I hate the Cards
I love Wrigley field but loathe the Cubs
A-Rod is a great player, but his legacy will be tainted by the Juice.  He should have never picked up the needle
The Red Sox winning in 2004? was probably the greatest story in Baseball since the Sosa-McGuire slugfest
the Dogers...Hmm...Does baseball exist west of St. Louis?

Did you hear how much that lady in Fresno received for her eBay auction of the Reds 1869 baseball photo?!?!

Agreed!

Hey, hey, hey now!  It's bad enough the refs gave them #5 and #6.  We don't need to go and give them #7 before they earn it!  Dallas and San Fran might make it to #7 first.   ::)
