Thinking While Holding the Box:
Want to counter all the speedy, almost defense-less decks in the game? Make the goal of winning the game be the first to either rescue 5 lost souls OR convert all your opponent's evil humans.
It's the same Biblical message after all. :)

The problem is how many evil humans will your opponent have? And if you don't know, how will anyone know if you got them all, second speed decks will just hord a human in there hand.

The problem is how many evil humans will your opponent have? And if you don't know, how will anyone know if you got them all, second speed decks will just hord a human in there hand.
It's just like finding out if your opponent used the proper number of lost souls. Ask.
Play some hand control cards.

Look I hate speed. I feel like these defenseless decks are missing out half the game. I also do want to see something change. I just don't see this working.

Oh no, you have all but one of my ECs converted and only one use of Grail? Angel my EC! Now there was one discarded and not converted!
Go ahead and try it, but I foresee it being used slightly less than Taunt. That is to say, not at all.

Which now leaves you with zero ECs to block your available lost souls. ;)

You could Alter the Rule to converting 5 Human ECs instead of converting them all, then require decks to have the same number of Humans ECs as they do lost souls.

I dislike the dominance of speed as much as anyone, but I also don't see this working.
Why wouldn't people continue playing a speed deck and then simply discard 1 of their human ECs (Gomer, Uzzah, Sabath Breaker, or one other that they add just to throw away)?

I gave absolutely no thought to whether it would work or not.
I'm still holding the box. If I have to, I'll take it and go home.
