Thinking Outside the Box #5 - Shimei

I'm going to share some rough ideas that do things that have haven't been done before in Redemption. These are untested and probably need more work before they are could ever see print. Your feedback is appreciated!

Concept: The focus here is on the ability to restrict opponent's from playing specific cards. Taunt seemed like a good way to implement that and Shimei seemed like a good candidate, but the restriction might be better used on an Enhancement or Curse. In this form the ability is cumulative, so you get to add a new card to the "restricted list" for each successful taunt.

Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

Very interesting, this could shut down whole decks.

I'd make it so that after a successful block, it triggers as written... then on a successful taunt you get to restrict two cards.

Why? How often do you get to taunt with Goliath?

This is a good point.  On all the turns where you can't make a rescue attempt, you often still want to attack to activate someone's ability (Susanna, Hur, Matthew, AUTO, etc).  And the Taunt effect doesn't even work if they block with a hero and then win, or in Shimei's case, they block with anything that negates ECs.  CBN, or at least CBI, should go on this card, and with a better benefit.

I agree with the previous two. Unless Taunt gets a rules change to be less restricted and more usable, I don't think Taunt-focused cards would ever be used (Goliath has an awesome normal ability, that's why people use him). If this guy restricted a card on a successful block and 2 cards on a successful Taunt, he'd rival the top 8 in last month's April Fools for best EC in the game (at least in my opinion :P).

I do love the idea, though. :)

Agree with all said. We'd have to make sure to establish precedent for stuff like "he said he restricts Chariots of Fire, this is Chariot of fire!"
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Like the Idea, it will be hard to do multiple times but he is similar to Gabriel Although his ability will be more effective than gabe because you can't just recur the enhancement and his ability will slow down draws.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

As written now, he would never be played. He's absurdly UP.
