Title: Time Stood Still
Post by: browarod on August 08, 2011, 02:10:03 PM
Time Stood Still
[Good Dominant | Joshua 10:13]
A) Place in your territory: If a special ability would cause a player to draw a card(s) (without shuffling their hand), place a counter here instead. Discard this card when it has 5 or more counters.

B) Place in your territory: If a player uses an ability to draw, instead place a counter here. Discard this card when it has five counters.

Notes: The idea for this is to help stop speed (by only allowing normal draw phase drawing of cards for a time). The verse describes how the sun stopped in the sky for a day to let Joshua and the Israelites defeat their enemies, so I thought that stopping your opponent's speedy drawing to give you time to regroup fit with that theme. The card works against your own speed because otherwise it would be a staple in speed decks to shut down the opponent's speed without affecting your own, which would defeat the desired purpose of the card, lol.

You could make it only on enhancements and characters so Mayhem would get out of the way, but I think Pigs LS already does this pretty effectively.

Pigs LS gets negated by FBTN LS, at least one artifact, and several heroes. Also, Pigs is a prevent so it can't get around CBN drawing, whereas this can (since it's an instead, not a prevent).

I thought about making it only enhancements, but Fishing Boat/Matthew/Hur+Gifts are non-enhancement cards that are the most used drawing engines in speed currently and it wouldn't even touch them (effectively making it useless for what I'm trying to make it do).

That would certainly work, assuming there isn't anything I've forgotten about. Thanks! ^_^

Hur does not shuffle the entire hand. Perhaps:

"Place in your territory: If a player uses an ability to draw, instead place a counter here. Discard this card when it has five counters."

I didn't say entire hand...

I like that idea a lot. However, I think it might be better to just have it work for 5 turns, because they could just spam draw abilities to make it break.

If you have six drawing cards to spam at once in order to draw, you're probably going to win by that point anyway.

I'm inclined to agree with Pol about the counters vs turn thing, so I'll leave it as is. Also, I'll add Pol's suggested rewording underneath the other one and people can let me know which one they think is better/clearer/more intuitive.

Thanks for all the comments so far. ^_^
