The Watchman Illustration Vote - Player Created Card Part VII

We're getting to the final steps of completing our player created cards! The scripture reference votes are in. Now it's time to pick the card art. The art choices can be found below under the spoiler tags. We have a number of really nice suggestions but not all were available in the public domain. Legal choices are represented below. Voting will run for 6 days and end on Tuesday at the time of this posting.

Next week we will vote on the stats.

Option #1 - Use the figure on the left in this piece:

Option #2 - Use the figure on the left in this piece:

Option #3 - The original card art:

Option #4 - Ezekiel's Vision by Raphael

Here's what our card looks like so far. Notice the special ability is too long. Currently I've shrunk the font to make it fit but it will need to be trimmed down.

It seems people a few hundred years ago were in much better shape than now-a-days (unsurprisingly). Classic art depictions seem to often show men to be super fit and strong!  :o

Oh man, I would totally have voted for that! I'm not too crazy about the ones we are currently voting on (except the original art, so my pick is quite clear cut and obvious ;))

I thought this one would have been an option as well.  I recall seeing it on an earlier post by someone.

I'm fairly certain Gabe said that one wasn't in the public domain so it couldn't be used for the card.

The deadline for submitting options has passed. I'm sorry but I have to have guidelines and stick to them to keep this project manageable for me, especially now that we're doing two cards.

That beautiful piece above is not public domain.

I think the original artwork deserves to be a card that gets used  8)

For sure wouldn't mind seeing the other artwork choices on other cards to come

Yeah, especially with option 4:" Ezekiel's Vision" as an enhancement with that artwork

Notice the special ability is too long. Currently I've shrunk the font to make it fit but it will need to be trimmed down.

Hmm... it doesn't look too long. What's wrong with a slightly smaller font to accommodate the extra few words? I don't think anyone has trouble reading it now.

Part of the reason for this project is to walk the players through some of the same things we go through as play testers when creating a card. One of our guidelines is a limitation on the length of the special ability and the font size we can use. As part of this project we're going to adhere to those same guidelines.

I've also found that things don't always look the same on a screen as they do when they are printed.

How about this? It's slightly shorter, yet does the same thing:

“Negate Confusion. Protect Lost Souls from shuffle. You may exchange this Hero with an O.T. green prophet whose name is a biblical book in deck, territory, or discard pile: If it’s Ezekiel, reveal a hand.”

Or, alternatively, instead of "reveal a hand.", it could be "draw 2." That's shorter, and prophets, without Sam, are arguably slow, so some might say it's better.

The first suggestion is just slightly too long still. The word "hand" spills into the "forbidden" sixth row of text. The ability just fits if we change "reveal a hand" to "draw 2".

I'll probably hold one final vote with options for a shortened SA.

I think we should just drop the Confusion negate. Protecting the souls fits thematically but the negate just feels tacked on. Yes, Confusion is a very powerful commonly used card, but I don't think we need to start slapping hard counters to it on random cards.

^^this

I have a strong dislike for narrow abilities, like "negate Confusion". Negate evil search abilities or negate evil banish remove from the game abilities are much better ways to accomplish the same thing.

I agree. I never really cared for the "negate confusion" portion as it reminds me of the limited, narrow and card-specific abilities that we see on cards from older sets such as Patriarchs and Apostles. The contemporary sets have moved away from such and now affect cards/abilities more broadly, which is much better for the game.
