The Gift of God

I was teaching a lesson in church about Soteriology, and during the lesson, as we were discussing Ephesians 2:8-9 and the "order" of salvation (The Gospel, The Renewing/quickening, The Repentance/Confession, The Justification, and The Sanctification), an idea for a card came to mind.

In theology, there is a term that some call "Common Grace" or "Prevenient Grace." This refers to the grace we receive from God before we are redeemed. It's the fact that God wants to have a relationship with humanity and allows humanity to live, even when we deserve death, and to have an opportunity to become a rescued soul that has received The Gift of God.

I really like it but definitely would have something like "Cannot be used in the same deck as Son of God" and limit one per turn or even game.

If you played this then went ET AoCP it's game over.

Really great concept!

perhaps i worded it poorly: the intent was that you play this once, it doesnt stick around.

I also toyed with the idea of: "Banish this and Until of turn:"

what does AoCP mean?

Its good soul gen, but imo not worth a dom slot, its completely worthless if they are running animals/demons and it can hurt you.  I would remove the "until end of turn" then maybe it would see some play.

Yes wording can be very critical in Redemption which is why it's more important to nail the intention as you have!

Authority of Christ Promo. Ethiopian Treasurer play AoCP all of your ecs die and are rescued with this wording. I get the intention, it's good

Well, I said Land of Bondage not Land of Redemption

Ah gotcha. Then I agree with jazz. Not very playable but if it said Land of Redemption with the limits it would be great. Thematically that's applicable because through Grace whatever is causing their discard is causing them to become saved. The capture isn't thematic to me because effectively a good dom is only making lost souls in that case.

Well, thematically I was trying to represent that "common grace" in that we get an opportunity to be saved. not so much as a "capture" idea.

If you think that there needs to be a rescue involved...let me readjust the wording for that. BRB

Not quite there yet...as is this would let you rescue an Evil Character every turn.

Way too overpowered, you could rescue a EC every turn with this by setting up some combo to discard your own EC every turn (nothing comes to mind but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard), needs to be limited to maybe banish it after the 1st or 2nd uses.  Would have to be able to be used twice otherwise there's no reason to use it over Son of God, and I don't think its good for the game to but even more guaranteed rescued LS's in dominates.  Also, I'm pretty sure you mean play to territory, support area isn't a thing.  I like how it was before better, LS gen is good for the game, just remove the once per game and I think its good

I thought it would be better as a Soul Generator card myself, but it seems like there is a lot more of that these days, so I adjusted it to feedback

How's this

So it doesn't need to be territory class since its a dominate.   I believe it should be worded if you want to keep this kind of ability: Place in territory.  Each upkeep, choose a human evil character.  If that human is discarded, discard this card to rescue it instead.

Also Son of God is just better.  The only reason you would use this over SoG is for situations when there is a human EC out and your opponent has no LS's out and you have a reliable way to discard that EC, which with all the soul gen out there that isn't a good enough reason to run this instead of SoG when SoG is better in every other situation in my opinion.

Sepjazz raises a good point--it's pretty difficult to come up with an ability that is exactly balanced with SoG. Personally I think it's fine for 99.9% of decks to run Son of God because there's different strategies around getting to it quickly and there's also a lot of strategy in when to use it.

On the topic of "alternate" dominants, I've always thought it would be cool to have another Angel of the Lord that converted a human or underdecked a non-human.

So basically a good version of CoW Falling Away :)  That would be fun, I love all the cool combo stuff that is out there for CoW FA, and Angel version of that would be cool as well

That could work, would need major playtesting to see if it would be balanced, but it could work.
