If Son of God has not been played, negate the special abilities of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John heroes.  Cannot be negated.

"From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.  Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Matthew 16:21-22

Maybe "If Son of God has not been played this game..."
Not quite a ghost...but not quite not.

Totally agree that this is better, and appropriately lessens the power at the same time.  Modified.

Let me explain the controversial nature of this card.  Yes, the cross is important, but it's significance was not known to the earliest disciples when their Master was executed.  Think of the moment when all the disciples fled on the night of His arrest, or Peter denied Him three times, and Thomas even doubted that He was raised.  The concept of a suffering, dying Messiah was so completely foreign to the Jews, and it became a stumbling to many of them as Paul later writes.  Only after He was raised from the dead and thereby proved Himself to be God's Son (i.e. "If Son of God has been played") was their courage and resolve strengthened enough to continue the struggle.

Heroes from the book of Acts and later would have already heard the account of Jesus' resurrection, which is why I exempted them from this.

How about "gospel heroes?" All the more reason for people to learn the books of the Bible....

Well, having done a NT word study on the word "gospel" a few years ago, I personally cringe a bit when I hear the first 4 books called that.  Those words "The gospel according to Matthew" are not in the original manuscripts.  When you look at how else the word gospel is used elsewhere in the New Testament, you realize that there is ONE gospel, not four (i.e. "the gospel" rather than "the gospels").  And it is not just the "good news" about Christ, but it is a doctrine/collection of teachings to be believed on and obeyed (see 2 Thess.1:8 ).  I believe that only Mark begins with this word, and even there Mark acknowledges that he is writing not the sum but "the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ."  In short, I think there is a danger of confusing people if we say that there are four gospels in the bible but only one gospel.

Not trying to start an argument, and I know there are multiple uses of the word, but this way you know why I didn't shorten it to "a gospel hero".

I'd also prefer for the game to be easily learned by non-Christians.
