The 2018 Community Created Card
« on: January 03, 2018, 10:02:22 AM »

Hey guys, the community created cards (Paul & The Watchman) worked so well last year that we've decided to do them again this year!  8) Now I know last year we ended up with 2 player created cards and they both became promos, but for the time being we're going to start with the assumption that we'll do one card--it may become a promo or it may end up in the next set, we'll see!

I will be following Gabe's schedule from last year pretty closely unless participation directs otherwise. I'm going to start with a 10 day window so people have a little extra time to find out about this. After that we'll hopefully do one week at a time for voting.

The first thing to vote on will be the card type, please vote above!

Due to the great participation we've had already today in just a few short hours, I'm going to change the deadline to 7 days so that we keep momentum going for the next round of voting (instead of dragging it out). It looks like we have a clear favorite so far, but we'll see what the next few days bring!  8) If you know someone who hasn't been on the forum recently, be sure to give them a heads up so they can get in on the design process!

Dual Alignment option, please. I'd like to renew my (lifelong?) quest to see Jehu be given a Hero card. Thanks!

Because there are so many dual type/alignment combinations, I decided against listing them all. However, if during the design process we discover that the card we want to make would work really well as a DA card (such as a Hero/EC Jehu) then that is something that can be discussed later in the process.  :)

Thanks so much for this opportunity! This is so fun. I'm excited for things to rev up again in Redemption!

I voted for Evil Character. I think it would be great to make someone who is a legit roadblock (without chump blocking) and require us to really strategize to get around  8)

I also voted for an EC. With two heroes created last year, it’s time to have some community-created opposition to them.

39 votes in the first 24 hours--this is excellent! I'm glad there is such great participation. If this keeps up, we could likely shorten the timeframe even further so the card moves along even quicker (though I suppose it will take a bit longer to gather special ability suggestions).

Yes, once the vote is final for card type, we'll do card name.

And then I assume brigades > ability > str/def > ??
Or is some of that stuff kind of decided in the background

Sept 13-20 - The votes are in! We're making a Hero!
Sept 21-28 - suggestions for Hero name.
Sept 29-Oct 5 - vote on Hero name.
Oct 6-12 - vote on bridge(s) (if applicable)
Oct 13-19 - special ability suggestions (may include identifier and class)
Oct 20-26 - vote on special ability
Oct 27-Nov 2 - scripture reference suggestions
Nov 3-9 - vote on scripture reference
Nov 10-16 - card illustration suggestions
Nov 17-23 - vote on card illustration

This is the order/schedule Gabe used last year so we'll probably follow that pretty closely. Obviously it could be a little different if by chance it ends up being an Artifact (for example).

I don't know how applicable bridges are to most redemption themes, but I suppose if we decided to go the fortress route, it will be necessary  ;)

It's funny because I made a similar joke when Gabe posted that last year... ::)

If we're voting on bridges, I vote Golden.

Since it looks like EC is going to win easily, I'll get a jumpstart on the thought process for which EC to pick.  My vote would be for a strong reprint of an old Egyptian or Syrian, since those themes are still weaker than others.  King Hazael would be a prime candidate for the Syrian, IMO.  And one of the Pharaohs from Kings or Priests could work for an Egyptian.

Stronger characters let you accrue value over longer periods of time through repeated activations (and not having to wait to activate until you have initiative in battle).  These two themes need the most help of any theme that is close to being competitive.*

Also, my recommendation would be to have the EC's ability require all your ECs to be Syrian/Egyptian - that way, you can bump the power level up significantly without worrying about enabling splash defenses.

* As much as I would love to design a King Darius or other Persian EC, Persians are so far away from being competitive that they will need an entire set dedicated to helping them before they can hope to make it into competitive decks.  It's possible that new abilities, identifiers, and game mechanics could be introduced with that set (and possibly for Persians in particular), so I'd rather not put a lot of work into making an awesome Persian EC that ends up not working with the future direction of the Persian theme.

I think a reprint of Jannes from priests would be cool. He can be egyptian, magician, and have some really powerful ability while he's in battle with Jambres. I always liked these two as a concept, especially because they are exodus egyptians, but they are really bad.

Not quite as good as survivor, but he's already pretty good for inish imo

Plus, grey has sabbath breaker too.

That does give me an idea for Jannes though. Exodus Egyptians have no inish, so what if he was an 8/8 pale green/ gold Egyptian magician, "if Jambres or The Hard Hearted Pharaoh are in battle, you may search your discard or reserve for an evil exodus enhancement and add it to hand or battle. Cannot be negated unless Moses is in battle." There is the potential for some auto block shenanigans, but because it requires a bit of set up with specific characters and the fact that Egyptians have no auto blocks other than the Egyptian warden justifies something powerful like this for me.

EDIT: I also wanted to point out that with the exceptions to abandonment, egyptian treasures, and revolt, most really powerful or essential enhancements for an egyptian defense come from exodus

Yes, i like the line of thinking that this is going in. Another option for a splashable EC that doesn't benefit splash defenses would be a generic EC that only works when the rest of the defense is all the same civilization.

The verse on Foreign Spearman is Jeremiah 6:23,
"They are armed with bow and spear; they are cruel and show no mercy. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride on their horses; they come like men in battle formation to attack you, Daughter Zion."
Note that the verse not only talks about foreigners with spears, but also with bows. Imagine a Foreign Archer, and you get to choose his nationality when he goes into play  ;)

Kings of the Earth lets you do this - although he doesn't get to keep all 7 brigades.

Another option is this guy.
