Hmmmmm... I thought that card referred to the son of Robert "Bob" Cushan and Nancy "Nancy" Risathaim (explaining the apostrophe) whose given name was King.

I have never participated in an event where I have had to replace my team mate in the middle of a National's Tournament team game because he decided to QUIT to participate in another event he deemed more important than FINISHING what he talked me into playing. I don't think Rapha works as a submission because the direct scripture reference doesn't mention Rapha or Raphah as a person. I believe it means giant in Hebrew. Then we are left with a card called "Giant, Father of Giants".

Sources I've read said that it could also be translated as "tall" which means it was probably a nickname.

According to biblehub.com, the Hebrew is transliterated "hā-rā-p̄āh" and the Strong's number is 7497 "Rapha" (Proper Name).

Here's the word in various popular translations:

NASB (the translation that Redemption now uses) - "the giant"
KJV - "the giant"
NKJV - "the giant"
ESV - "the giants"
NIV - "Rapha"

I feel like Rapha could work, but perhaps the name could just be "The Giant"

The Hebrew names רפא (Rapha) and רפה (Raphah) are really two different names, but the verbs that these names are derived off yield words that can be spelled either way; with an א or with a ה. It is therefore not clear from which verb our respective names come, or what they would have specifically meant.

And to make matters worse: it's not clear how many different men named Rapha(h) there are in the Bible. Here are the candidates:

1. Possibly the patriarch of the gigantic Rephaim. The Rephaim were a tall and numerous people, of which king Og of Bashan was the last one. Their name (רפאים) is a plural form of רפא, and that word may either describe their nature, or their patriarch. We don't know. But:

  -In 1 Chronicles 20:4-8 we read about the battles of Israel against the Philistine giants of Gath, of whom it is said that they were נולדו להרפא; "born onto the rapha" (with an א).

  -In 2 Samuel 21:15-22 we read the same story, and in this version we read that these giants of Gath were בילידי הרפה; "of the born-ones (=children) of the rapah" (with a ה).

The word rapha(h) is in both cases preceded by what seems the definite article ה (he), which suggests that rapha is a noun. However, in Judges 1:20 the text speaks of בני הענק or 'sons of the Anak', which supplies enough precedent to consider the reference to the Rapha of Gath a patriarchal personal name. In English, the NAS, KJV, JSP, ASV and Young translations all choose to interpret this word by implication, and read "the giant". By contrast, the NIV reads here the personal name Rapha and the Darby translation has Raphah. But that option carelessly omits the ה (he) in front of it. If we're dealing with a personal name here, it would be Harapha(h). The problem with that is that this assumed name would come from a root הרפ and that doesn't occur in Hebrew. In other words: we don't know and all are guessing.

2. The fifth son of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 8:2 — spelled רפא). The Chronicler's Benjaminite son-list is very different from the one submitted in Genesis 46:21, and this is perhaps because the Chronicler listed the Benjaminite families that were still around at the time of writing, and listed them according to their prominence within the tribe.

3. A son of Moza of Benjamin, who descended from king Saul's son Jonathan (1 Chronicles 8:37 — spelled רפה). In 1 Chronicles 9:43 this man is called רפיה (Rephaiah).

In other words: we don't know and all are guessing.

So I think we should lean towards something more specifically referenced in the Bible. Sticking with the "giant category" Sons of Anak or King Og of bashan would be really cool, but "The Giant" seems a bit bland for a community created card.
