Ok, so SoG is not as powerful with the rule changes. I think it's good that dominants have less of an impact. However, I will admit that without a Jesus card in the game, the Son of God card should be the focus of the message delivered by the game. As such, without making dominants more powerful, I thought that there could (and maybe should) be a way to make SoG rescue any lost soul regardless of any type of protection.
There are probably many ways to do this, but I thought what might work the best is to give SoG a one-time access during the game. This could be accomplished with a territory-class enhancement, probably multi-color, based on Romans 14:11, that basically has an SA along the lines of:
"If Cross Beams of the Cross is in play, Son of God may rescue any lost soul regardless of protection."
Thoughts?
-
Cross Beams of the Cross would need a decent reprint for it to be used.
-
That's why it's a concession - you have to give something up to get an all-powerful SoG.
-
Just print an incredibly OP beast, that way everyone want to use Simon Cyrene and Cross-Beams.
-
I do not think it is unreasonable, at least in this one instance, to give a card an errata that makes it more powerful. If any card should have such an errata, it is this. "Rescue a Lost Soul regardless of protection." Or there could even be an entirely separate rule in the next rulebook, such as: "The Son of God card may be used to rescue any lost soul in an opponent's territory regardless of all other active abilities or game rules." Unless a "God" card is ever made, this is the only card I think should ever get such special treatment, but I do think it deserves some special treatment out of respect.

This may not be necassary, remember there was a lot of talk a few months back of printing a SOG in the new set that negates lost souls.

I heard this as well, and haven't heard anything about it since.
Edit: The idea was, "Negate and rescue a Lost Soul." Not negates heroes, but I think that was a typo on Alec's part.

Big difference there.
-
That was indeed a typo. The downsides of typing a response on my iPod, as I'm rolling out the driveway and thus losing wifi every second. No time to think.

Forgot about that. :o
Although it would be nice to make other non-useful cards relevant again. :)

I agree w/ this suggestion. It would be better having something like that. Maybe have it as Beams or 3 Nails and it could be a Promo so it won't be too easy to get.
-
This wouldn't be nearly enough to make me add Crossbeams, or any other artifact like that. You'd have to reprint Crossbeams with some better special ability.

This still wouldn't rescue souls in your own territory. They aren't protected from rescue, it is a game rule that prevents SoG from targeting them.
And maybe that is what you wanted, but I thought I'd point it out.

Change it to Say.
ANB, Split Altar, SoG, and Mayhem ignore game rules. Play those cards according to the writing thereon. Cannot be negated.
EDIT: Any other fun erratas/rule-changes I'm missing?
-
This rule was just made and already you want to break it?
-
This is only for SoG not everything and their brother.
-
the only rules this affects is SOG/NJ so you only want to break half of the brand new shiny rule
-
Most people seem to agree that this 'shiny new rule' wasn't that nessesary. Ive seen more complaint on that rule then any of the new ones. Also, it doesn't make sense to have SoG be limited to Opponents LoB, they could have made something that would have been more useful than this new ruling.
-
I kind of like the new rule, it has the potential to hurt speed. But this is kind of off-topic, if we are going to have this discussion it's probably better to move it to a different thread.

Not really. Card creation has never been my forte, though I'd like to think I'm good at critiquing and balancing card ideas out. The problem is if I'm that dedicated to rescuing the NT or */4 Lost Souls, I'm just going to use Isaiah or Foreign Sword or something like that.

The new rules don't "hurt" speed per se. They just reduce the power relative to other types.
-
how is that not hurting speed though? It's not a direct ding to speed but I think that it reduces the power of speed to some extent at least.
-
Hurt would mean they directly counter speed. The new rules just provide less incentive to play speed.
-
Ok fair enough. :)

I would say that the new rescue rules directly counter speed. They increase the likelihood of fatal soul drought, allowing an opponent to walk in.
