1 Kings 18 cards

Just a few ideas regarding my favorite story in the Bible.

Elijah
6/8 Green hero
Prophet; may hold Rain Becomes Dust
You may play RBD, a unique prophet, or a purple King of Israel from deck. Whenever Elijah rescues a Lost Soul, discard a curse.

Prophets of Baal
3/7 Black/PG EC
Generic Canaanite Magician, X=# of Canaanites in play
You may decrease this by up to X to reveal that many cards from bottom of deck. You may take or play any evil enhancements or idols. May band to a royal or generic Canaanite.

Display of Power
6/2 Green GE
If played against a Canaanite, interrupt the battle. You may banish an idol, curse, or your evil card to discard all Evil Characters in battle. Cannot be interrupted if there are three or more evil brigades in battle.

Mount Carmel
Green/Silver site
Unity: Evil Characters (Canaanites); While occupied, may hold an idol
If opponent's prophet enters battle, your evil characters cannot be prevented. While blocking, you may underdeck an idol activated here to add a Canaanite to battle. If you do, good discard abilities banish instead.

Sacrifice Challenge
Green/Black DAE
Begin a side battle between your character of matching alignment and your opponent's character of opposite alignment. In this battle, evil cards cannot be prevented and good cards cannot be interrupted.

Little bit of explanation to go with these.

Activating a curse may seem an odd choice for a hero's ability (though there is some precedent in The Two Witnesses). However, Elijah predicts a drought as judgement on Ahab, so RBD seemed appropriate. At the Lord's command, he also anoints Jehu as King and appoints his successor Elisha, hence the other part of his ability. The Unity interaction was an idea to allow him to use Zion, although I'm sure there's plenty of fun to be had with it.

Prophets of Baal is a slightly different take on the bottom-access magician we've seen for Egypt and Babylon. The decrease is a reference to how they cut themselves attempting to get Baal to answer. Like Philistine Diviners, it's playable in a magicians deck but better with its nationality.

Display of Power is a reference to the sacrifice fight on Mount Carmel. On the evil side, you can essentially turn it plus one other evil card from hand into any EE in your deck. On the good side, it's a powerful battlewinner that can get rid of an opponent's curse or idol, but is still usable otherwise. I considered adding an interrupt if played against a magician, but that would make the ability pretty long.

Mount Carmel is an extra artifact slot, filling a similar role as Corrupted Temple, with some bonus CBP as well. Prophets are in a surprisingly wide array of offenses, not just green.

Thoughts?

Display of Power is probably good enough without needing CBI on the good side.

I like the ideas in general, but we do want to be careful that we don't open up too many ways to activate curses and idols without having some cost/condition (i.e. Damascus needs a Syrian, Corrupted Temple requires Solomon's Temple, etc).

I would probably look to add a Unity clause to Mt Carmel, and I'm not sure we want to go down the road of "Unity exceptions" (your idea for Elijah) quite yet... ::)

Have you looked it up in ORCID?

I like them.  I immediately nodded in agreement at RBD, and it is very fitting.  Also, you could introduce a Faith of Elijah card instead because of James 5:17 in relation to the drought.

Display of Power I think should avoid DAE because the whole point of that confrontation was to show that the false gods were and are powerless and useless.

Cool idea!

I did consider adding Unity ECs (Canaanites) to Mt Carmel, but had trouble finding a good way to do it, since the hold has to be the identifier, which isn't effected by Unity. Could go the Chorazin route, but I'm not a huge fan of only having the space for one turn (though that might be more balanced).

I kinda figured Elijah was a bit out there.  I thought it was a fun idea to think about, though.

I did think about that as well. I ended up going the DAE route, reasoning that there are a few DAEs in the new set that (to me at least) seem like they should be pretty one-sided. Valid point, though. Perhaps they should be seperate cards (or maybe an easy negate condition/instead on the evil side, like Jehu's Sword).

Made some updates to all cards and added a new one.

Elijah is no longer TC or has the unity shenanigans. Instead, he effectively discards a curse when he wins a battle (winning on Mt. Carmel ended the drought, after all). This means that if you use his ability to play RBD from deck, he discards it if he wins (and if you activate it on him, you lose if it he dies too).

Minor update by giving the Prophets of Baal a band. This has precedence in Egyptian magicians, and stems from how close they were with Jezebel, and the fact that there were 400 of them there.

Display of Power is now only good. The CBI is conditional, but I added a conditional interrupt as well. Still probably too powerful, but it's interesting (and if your opponent doesn't have an idol or curse it has a cost). I did like the evil ability as well; I may have to use it for something else in the future. Divination reprint maybe?

I added Unity:Canaanites to Mount Carmel (the idol part still works because it's an identifier, though), as well as an interesting add to battle/cost. Not sure if there's any precedent for replacing abilities like that, but I thought it was an interesting balance.

New card Sacrifice Challenge to represent both sides now. The wording feels inelegant, and the CB stuff is probably bonkers, but side battles are fun, right? We love side battles now. (Honestly, this is probably the worst of the bunch).

Elijah needs a reprint so bad! I'm sure it's coming though, and he and Elisha will probably be a killer combo  8)
