Title: Romans are Super Cool!
Post by: Minister Polarius on January 21, 2009, 03:34:43 PM
Ok, I think Romans have to be by far the coolest civ, but I wouldn't play them because imo they're not as good as Babylonians or Assyrians or Syrians or Egyptians. So here are some new cards I made to make them cooler and better.

The Colosseum
Evil Fortress
-Holds One N.T. Human Hero-
"If you have a Roman Emperor in play, you may add the Evil Character here to your block regardless of any good special abilities. If you do, protect all evil cards from good special abilities and protect all good cards from evil special abilities except first strike. If you lose the battle, Discard this card."

Pontius Pilate
8/2 Grey Evil Character
-Roman Governor-
"Reveal an opponent's hand and Discard Son of God if there. If not, may band with Barabbus."

Governor Felix
6/2 Grey Evil Character
-Roman Governor-
"Protect all captured characters in your land of bondage from rescue. If block is successful, all Heroes involved in Rescue are captured and placed in opponent's land of bondage instead of being Discarded."

Chief Captain lysias
7/7 Grey Evil Character, WC
-Roman Captain-
"If block is successful, place on a Roman Site or Fortress. You may add this character to battle whenever you are being attacked regardless of ignore."

Antipatris
Silver Site
-Roman Site-
"Protect this Site and Evil Cards here from Discard. When you play Prisoner Transfer, place it here. Any time you block with a Roman, its special ability activates again."

sweet, you may want to clean up the wording on The Colosseum
and Pontius Pilate should say
"While this character is in play protect your SoG from discard unless high priest Annas or Caiaphas is in play"
Because Pilate did his best to protect Christ

Believe it or not The Colosseum was cleaned up a lot. Can you think of a way to shorten it so it does the same thing?

You may wanna make him be put face down to DR doesn't auto trash him.

Evil Fortress
-Holds any number of Characters and Enhancements-
"RDJ does not target this card. You may place a N.T. Human Evil Character here. If you have a Roman Emperor in play when you are attacked, you may choose to place all attacking Heroes here, being blocked by the Evil Character. Protect all Evil cards from Good special abilities played in battle and protect all Good cards from Evil Special Abilities except First Strike."
Protect this fortress from discard by evil enhancements would work better, the rest, idk.

It should go
"Protect this card from RDJ. If you have a Roman emperor in play you may place a N.T. EC here when you are attacked you may reveal this EC and block with it. If you block with the EC from this fortress the protect all Evil cards from Good special abilities played in battle and protect all Good cards from Evil Special Abilities except First Strike."

To RR:

Well, I don't want to overdo the blocking after a battle-winner. Plus if you put him on Antipatris or any of the other Protect Sites, or if you're using Pergamum, you're good.

RDJ does not target this card is shorter XD

To JSB23:

The problem with that is I want the Fortress to get around Ignore pre-battle cards without Negating the Ignore so you still have to do something about the source. Your version is basically a The Darkness that doesn't stop CTB and makes the battle FbtN.

Here's what colisseum should say:

"Any time your Roman captures a human hero, place it here. You may cause two heroes in this fortress to fight each other."

That would make self capture intresting BUT it also could cause issues. It'd be a way to have 2 side battles, which would break the game..again.

How would you be able to have another side battle during your site phase?

It never says WHEN I have to use it. Which means I choose :-p

What Bible are you reading?  Pilate didn't care what happened and he took the cowardly route in "washing his hands"

The first sentence just adds something that really isn't needed, not to mention it is worded horribly.  If you're insistent on keeping that idea then just say, "Cannot be discarded by a Roman."  Also, rather than include the act of placing, that can go into the identifier line as, "Holds one N.T. human Evil Character."  As for the rest, how about this:
Spoiler (hover to show)

That's shorter and I think accomplishes the same thing you had desired.

The others look good, Felix may be a bit strong though.

For the ability, I would say something more like this:

"If you have a Roman Emperor in play while your opponent is making a rescue attempt against you, you may add the Evil Character here to the battle regardless of any good special abilities. If you do, then protect all evil cards from good special abilities and protect all good cards from evil special abilities this battle."

Honestly, I don't even like the second part myself, but that's the way I would word it. :-\

Sean's version was shorter. Nothing personal.

Uh...his was almost exactly the same, except I made a few small (but necessary ;)) changes. First of all, Seans way allows CTBing your own character to the battle after you start a rescue. :dunno:

Good point about the CTB, a small change made.

Do you really need to exclude protection from first strike? I mean, first strike doesn't affect the hero, only the EC, that is making it so that he survives in case of mutual destruction, right?

Also, I would say that the "this battle" part of the protection ability could be used...well, every battle. I'm pretty sure that isn't what you intended.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but the Coliseum seems like nothing more than a FBtN fortress that can be used by anyone, endlessly.

That's almost the case, yes. I don't really like it myself....I like my idea.

I'd like it more if the second half had a restriction, like "may be used once/twice per game" or something. The first sentence is awesome, however.

i do think pilot needs a better ability he doent do any thing he doesnt even have a ability i think he should say "discard a N.T human hero in play setaside area or battle" and he wouldbe iether ultra rare or promo

Austin, READ the posts before you post!!!!!!!!!!  One of the cards MP created WAS Pilate.

Not sure if that would be too much of a penalty or a good penalty.

Well it's kind of like U&T except more vulnerable. First, you have to have a Roman Emperor, and there's no protection fort for Romans, so killing off all the emperors would work. Also, the EC in the fortress is not protected from anything, so if you kill him pre-battle you can't use the Fort. I think it's balanced enough.
