Pilgrim's Progress

I've talked to a few people at my play group about making some Pilgrim's progress cards. i've gotten mixed replies, so what does everyone else think?

for anyone who doesn't know what pilgrim's progress is, its a book that this guy wrote that is a very good parallel to a christian's spiritual walk through life. heres a link to the book.

I think it could be really cool- there are so many  dynamic characters in the Pilgrims progress – you could make a very diverse and intriguing set!

I love that book. It is my favorite book after the Bible. I had similar thoughts years ago about combining Pilgrim's Progress and Redemption in some way.

These days I have been playing around with a Pilgrim's Progress cooperative card game design. I am afraid the design is still in very early stages so there is nothing substantial I can post here.

Best wishes with your designs!

Doug

Thanks, Doug!
I haven't actually read the original, but there was a comic book version and it was so amazing that it inspired me to make these cards. i love How Bunyan was able to portray a christian's life through this very inventive and exciting story. i will admit, the art i've found online for Pilgrim's Progress is... Lacking. Its kinda hard to find good art for this book  :(

A lot of the art probably comes from an old cartoon movie of the book.

The book was published in 1678 by preacher/tinkerer John Bunyan. It was so popular there lots of editions sold and are therefore tons and tons of old wood cuts you will find as you search. Crossway Publishing did a new updated version of it here. http://www.christianbook.com/the-pilgrims-progress-deluxe-illustrated-edition/john-bunyan/9781433506994/pd/506994?product_redirect=1&Ntt=506994&item_code=&Ntk=keywords&event=ESRCP The illustrations are amazing. Douglas Ramsey is the latest artist I know of to put out some amazing images from the book http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-douglas-ramsey.html

I would strongly encourage everyone to read it. Most of the top preachers and theologians list it in their top ten books of all time because Bunyan so wonderfully captures the highs and lows, difficulties and triumphs of a Christian's journey through life. Famed British Preacher Charles Spurgeon read it once a year until his death. It is the most translated work apart from the Bible. It has been a major encouragement to me, that my own struggles are not uncommon. My own failures just like those of other Christians. John Piper's website has offered a free, updated version here. http://www.desiringgod.org/articles/the-pilgrim-s-progress-new-edition

Enjoy!
Doug

SO cool! The cards all look terrific, great art selection, and I am impressed by their synergy! It makes me wish there was an entire Pilgrim's Progress game like Redemption, but it also would be awesome to have a Pilgrim's Progress brigade/theme within Redemption, too! I don't know how much precedence there is for it, though, as Redemption is a "non-fiction" game (even the characters that are not from the Bible are from history) and Pilgrim's Progress is fiction.

Wait a sec though, maybe there is a precedent...Angel Wars!?!  ???

also, a few minor spelling corrections:

In the special ability on Hopeful, "may" is misspelled.
Three Shining Ones, Evangelist is misspelled.
Finally, I'm pretty sure that "Enhancement" and "Character" are always capitalized in special abilities.

Great job!
