Title: Prince of Persia and Herd of Swine
Post by: Minister Polarius on December 29, 2009, 09:40:47 AM
Prince of Persia
5/11 Orange Evil Character
-Demon, Cannot be Ignored-
"Protect this card from Discard while it remains in play or set-aside unless two or more Angels are in battle (or one if Angel of the Lord attempts to target it). Cannot be Negated."

Herd of Swine
0/0 Orange Evil Enhancement
"Place your Demon from bottom of deck face-down in opponent's Discard Pile until that player Discards a Good Dominant from hand, then Discard Demon. No cards below Demon can be removed from Discard, and while your Demon remains, Negate all Good N.T. Special Abilities on opponent's cards."

Both of these seem a little OP. An EC being unignorable and totally undiscardable is just insane. Maybe good discard abilities, and don't make it CBN or something. As for Herd, negating all of opponent's NT abilities includes fortresses, artifacts, Lost Souls, and both good and evil characters, enhancements, and covenants/curses. That's just sickening. Also, if you can ever find a way to protect him from discard, you have a character with endless initiative. I like having a new animal, though.

BB, why do you say unignorable? Did I misread the ability? I only see the "can't be discarded unless..." ability.

Also, yeah NT cards means EVERYTHING, which is WAY overpowered.

No, it's in the identifier, which is even worse.

why is that worse? ignore is a terrible, terrible thing. i wish all evil characters had cannot be ignored status! :)

Worse meaning more powerful, which is bad if the card is already powerful enough or OP. ;)

well, at least it has to meet a condition to get its special ability, unlike judas iscariot. and i dont see him being used nearly enough. :)

I love Prince even though he is SUPER CRAZY oh noes op'd due to discarding demons is one of only 3 ways to get rid of demons. The second card is really funky I think it would make a better enhancement personaly.

I attempted to balance Herd of Swine.

My thoughts on PoP are, yes he is super-powerful, but Orange has a history of powerful characters. Being protected from Discard and Ignore give Orange more staying power to become a viable mono with no (real) Protection Fort. He will also never get initiative against anyone but Phinehas, and is highly succecptible to Red banding and battle-winners (Baggage, Freedom!), making that Brigade more powerful at the same time. He can also be beat by numbers (perhaps encouraging more regular Negates that aren't Interrupt+Battle-Winner) and Silver offenses (another under-used strategy).

The thing is, Discard and ignore are probably the main two ways that Demons can be affected. Now only capture, removal from the game, shuffle, set-aside, and FbtN/immunity bands can really affect him, and most of those things only have one or two ways to be done by heroes. I don't know if you planned this, but it would be literally impossible to defeat this character with a teal deck. Gold, purple, and blue would have an incredibly difficult time as well, as would white unless it drew 'He Is Risen' at the right time. Only red and green and obviously silver would be able to pretty easily bypass this character.

And for Herd, I think it would be best to just say "good NT cards."

They're also the two most over-used offensive battle-winning strategies.

Oh, short list  ::)

Holy unto the Lord, Jadua band, Silver Trumpets band, don't rely on the most unbalanced Brigade.

Gold always has a hard time with Demons so I think that fits perfectly with the power grid system already in place, plus Moses. Purple has lots of people with big numbers and enough banding. Blue has Trapped in Cleverness, CTB, and Ira.

White is OP, and in addition to "He Is Risen," they have a CBN band, high-numbers characters with Blessings, and Musicians for great justice! (Protection of Angels)

There's also the fact that you can deal with him on defense via WaS or take care of him with a side-battle. You can also band to him and then blow up the battle. It seems like your complaint is that he is nearly impossible to beat with the cards everyone and his brother has in every deck currently. I consider that a shining endorsement of the card I have created :D

As for Herd of Swine, that's a good idea. I think with the other balancing mechanisms I've put into place, making it only Good cards will finish the job (although I did want him to Negate Gifts).
