New card ability?

It is hard to come up with a totally new ability to the Redemption game but I think this might be one.

Advance the Game

Card abilities would read something like "advance the game 3 turns.  Drawing of cards is prevented for all players during those turns."
The idea is that you skip the game x turns ahead.  You cannot be protected from this ability because it has to affect all players or none.  You would go in order like normal turns but you are not allowed to play any cards (including Dominants) or put any cards from your hand onto the table.  Like I said it is skipping through your turns but the upkeep phase still gets checked.

So the gameplay purpose would be to make the wait less on your set-asides, or if your opponent set you aside then you get your guys back faster.  It would also help disease decrease decks.  It would also have other uses like skipping past their use of Burial Shroud.

Now since this would effectively end a battle, I would primarily (maybe only) have this on cards played outside of battle.  Those are already pretty powerful and that is not the point with this.

You could not prevent the draw of cards but then players will be forced to draw and probably have to discard down to 8 repeatedly.  That could be really cool but it could easily become overpowered so I would be careful with that.

What do you think?

With the way it works atm WCFBTNB wins. 3 turns with a huge band, and they can't draw 3 turns yet you can use I am healing?

If the purpose is to help set-asides along, why not say that directly?

I'm not really interested in making set-asides faster.  They are primarily used in speed decks, which don't need to get faster.  Outside of that, they are used to gain abilities that would be too powerful to get too quickly (Witnesses to Creation says hi).

I appreciate the creativity, but maybe you could try to think of another new ability :)

I'm not sure you guys are getting what I'm trying to say here.

What?  During those 3 turns no one can put characters into battle or play cards from hand.  You aren't really playing those turns but instead skipping through them.  You basically just check any abilities or game rules that would happen automatically like upkeep or discarding down to 8 at discard phase.

Because that is one of but not the only way this kind of card could be used.  For example if my opponent played Besieging the City against me then on my turn I play a territorry class advance 2 turns enhancement.  Now when my new turn starts the effect of Besieging the City is gone and I can draw cards and make a rescue attempt.  Or if I have played Leprosy into my opponent's territory then this will help knock off some more heroes.  There are multiple different ways this kind of card could be helpful.

Well it would help cards like Witnesses but I would view that as a good thing.  I almost never see anyone use cards like that because you'll either time out or lose before that card ever comes back to help.  It seems like realizing those were so slow no one played with them, they made the new ones be 1 turn but those are really too fast.  I would love to see some more really great set-aside abilities but to balance them they need to take longer and this would help them still be potentially playable.

The speed deck set-asides are mostly 1 turn so I'm not sure this would affect those very much.  I think you could actually use this against them.  They set-aside with Pentecost, etc. during their discard phase and have 8 cards in their hand.  When Pentecost activates they draw 3 cards but may not play any cards and have to discard down to 8 again during their discard phase.  It seems to me that would be a balance to the situation.  Other options would be to stop the drawing by protecting? all draw piles from drawing so you skip past their set-asides.  Or you could not prevent the drawing of cards and then during the 3 turns all players would draw 9
cards and have to discard back down to 8.  That would work well with the new good gold theme of making your opponent deck out but that seems potentially too strong so I'd be careful of that option.

An alternative would be an ability that lets you add extra counters to set-asides during the upkeep phase. That'd be a whole lot less confusing and do the same thing.

That was actually my first thought but I just really liked all the other potential uses.  It would combo nice with cards like the evil gold one that gets placed in opponents territory and I think this could help poison and disease defenses be much better.

I'm hoping you understand my concept here.  Is there any way I could word it better so it would not be confusing?

"Add a counter to all cards in set aside. All cards that activate in the upkeep phase, activate."?

Even better idea, just make the ability simply repeat the upkeep phase X times before continuing to the prep phase?

I agree.  People may not play Witnesses of Creation much because it takes so long, but plenty of people still play Gathering of Angels even though that takes 4 turns.  Do we want them to get it to work in 2 turns?  For that matter, do we want people playing Witnesses of Creation at all?  I mean really, more pre-block ignore?

As for the other things that would happen with this type effect, I wouldn't mind more fortresses/sites getting destroyed with Set Fire, but I'm not sure that I want even more deck destruction with Pagan Sacrifices.

a bad thing about Witnesses to Creation is its not even an ignore, which means most things won't prevent it. It says simply "Cannot be blocked by humans"

I dont think it would be counted as an ignore. Ergo the Prevent Ignore lost soul wouldnt touch it. i think

The anti-ignore LS wouldn't stop it anyway... abilities gained through set asides are always CBN.
