Title: Lost Soul (promo or UR, ftw?) and Go Astray

While this card is in play, restrict players from putting Lost Souls into Sites.

Pretty self-explanatory.

Current special ability: Place in your Land of Bondage: When an opponent would rescue a Lost Soul during battle resolution, turn this card and all your Lost Souls face-down until this ability completes. Opponent selects one randomly. If he selects this card, discard it instead of surrendering a Lost Soul.

Possible shortened special ability: Place in your territory: When an opponent wins a rescue attempt, they randomly select from the Lost Souls they had access to and this card. If they pick this card, discard it instead of surrendering a Lost Soul.

You'll want the restrict on the Soul since putting cards in sites is sometimes a game action, not an ability.

For Go Astray you'll want:

"Place in your Land of Bondage. When an opponent would rescue a Lost Soul during battle resolution, turn this card and all Lost Souls face-down until this ability completes. Opponent selects one randomly. If he selects this card, Discard it instead of surrendering a soul."

Thanks for the corrections, I'll get to work on updating the images.

What do you think of the abilities overall?

I like em both. The LS Especially. The second one wouldn't be really Op'D unless you got a lucky draw with your opponent not getting a LS and you getting one and that card. That would be a fifty fifty chance and the odds are even and that is the best situation, everything worse than that the odds get lower.

the LS may be a little OP'd but Go astray is PERFECTLY balanced

Would you have to take the cards out of their sleeves in case you played a Wanderer or something and you have your LS and their's with different color sleeves?

This would include the lost souls in all lands of bondage.  Did you mean to say that or did you mean just the ones in your land of bondage?

I don't see the need for the face-down language.  Like Angry Mob it seems like it is simpy explaining a mechanism to select the cards randomly.  It wastes space on the card and like Angry Mob, it could be confusing to some.  I think just saying "opponents randomly selects this card or one of your lost souls in land of bondage..." would be sufficient.

Would that LS have anything to do w/ my Sitelock deck?
I gotta wonder...

I like the Go Astray card, it works nice. Oh and galadgawyn: it isnt random if the opponent knows what cards they can choose. It has to go facedown and be shuffled or else it's not random.

@gala - You'll notice I added "your" when I put Polarius' suggested wording on the card. Also, I see what you mean about face-down, but I think it works this way (as it tells you exactly how to randomize it) so I'm tempted to just leave it as is. If you want to write up how you'd word it, though, I'd be happy to give it due consideration. :)

Thanks to everyone else for the comments as well. ^_^

Yeah, I read your cards but missed the added "your".

I think most players are smart enough to figure out how to randomly pick a card out of a group without being told how to.  Your wording works but is longer than necessary.  I brought this up because while Go Astray has an interesting ability, it is so long that it would never be printed.  I heard they prefer to not go above 5 lines and that is 9.  This is my attempt to shorten it but still have it basically do the same thing.

"Place in your Land of Bondage. When an opponent would rescue a Lost Soul during battle resolution, turn this card and all Lost Souls face-down until this ability completes. Opponent selects one randomly. If he selects this card, Discard it instead of surrendering a soul."
"Place in your territory. When an opponent wins a rescue attempt, he randomly selects from the lost souls he had access to and this card.  If he picks this card, discard it instead of him winning a soul."

A side of effect of shortening the language here is that it would make it slightly stronger and useful in multiplayer which is a good thing imo.

I'd like to hear an answer on this.  Hopper and Exchanger LS's come to mind... as well as captured characters.  The difference in sleeve color would make Go Astray rather silly.

That language is actually longer.

With his addition of "your," card sleeves would not be a factor since opponents' cards are never "yours."

This game needs more RNG, but I like the lost soul.

Would I still choose which soul my opponent rescues if they don't pick Go Astray?

I don't see why not? It seems to just be a mechanism much like Unholy Writ to use to potentially stop the RA after a BWer.

The LS would be better off as a place enhancement (ie "place in a territory. Remove all lost souls in that territory from sites.  Protect sites in territory from having cards placed on them(you could use the verse that describes the angel blocking the tree of life)).

As for the second one, how would that effect T2?

No more than T1. Read the ability closely.

And yet it's simpler to word and works just as effectively as a Lost Soul, lol.

After talking with Gabe at NC Regionals, it looks like Go Astray has WAY too many lines to ever be realistic, so I'm looking to shorten it as much as possible. galadgawyn has provided one possible wording, so I'd love if people gave opinions on that one and/or other possible shortenings.

Why don't they make Ultra Rare Lost Souls??

Make the "Place in a LoB" an identifier, for one.

Well, there haven't been ANY ultra rares of any kind for like 5 sets, lol. I dunno why there's never been an UR one.

Make the "Place in a LoB" an identifier, for one.
I thought about that at first, but I didn't know if "Plays to X" was an acceptable identifier for enhancements.
