Interesting, would be the first set-aside without a duration or return condition. Card is trying to do too much, though, and TC characters do not have instant abilities.

Herodias
Gold Evil Character 5/5
May search deck for a N.T. female Evil Character or N.T. Gold evil enhancement and add to hand. After a successful block, Roddick a evil discard enhancement.  Cannot be prevented.
Do what to it now? Kill it with a cup? Assuming that's "underdeck," this card's a powerhouse, but given how easy Discard is to get around, I don't actually think OP.

Herodians
Gold Evil Character 3/4
Generic
May band to a Herod, Herodian, or The Entrapping Pharisees. Reveal N.T. evil enhancements (Max. 2) from hand to draw the same amount. Opponent may discard that many good enhancements from hand instead. Cannot be prevented.
Matthew 22:16
Solid, love the interplay with the Phars.

Herodians
Gold Evil Character 3/4
Generic
May band to a Herod, Herodian, or Pharisees. If a Pharisee is in play, capture a N.T. human Hero. Cannot be prevented.
Mark 3:6
A wide-spectrum autoblock with an easy setup plus a banding ability and CBP besides is too much power, especially when the Herods themselves are not this powerful.

Herod's Soldiers
Gold Evil Character 8/8
WC
May band to a warrior class generic Evil Character. Discard abilities on N.T. enhancements gain regardless of protection. Cannot be Negated if a Herod is in play.
Needs a verse. The wide-spectrum banding doesn't really make sense and is pretty dang powerful with a Herod around (again, easy to set up).

Dance of Death
Gold Evil Enhancement 2/2
TC
Place on a N.T. female Evil Character. If blocking alone, character gains the ability to take a male Evil Character and add him to battle. Cannot be prevented if a Herod is in play.
Love it.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

I read in a book that Herodias was probably a young girl, maybe 9 or 10, and that her "dance" that pleased Herod and his guests would have been an "artful" dance, like something you might see at a talent show.  The book looked at the meanings of the words in the original languages as support for this.

Is there any evidence that Herodias was more mature and her dance inappropriate?  I know the original Dance of Death was designed with this view, but if it is incorrect, then that should be corrected with reprints (or no reprints should be printed).

Salome is the girl you are referring to. Herodias was her mother. I know she was young, I have never heard that. I doubt their appetites were talent show type though.

Yeah, I spent five minutes on wikipedia and just from that I'd find it hard to believe Herodias got Herod to kill John over a baton twirling.

Any thoughts on the updated cards?

The thing behind Herod's set aside ability is that he did not want to kill John the Baptist because he enjoyed hearing him preach.

Love the change to Herodians. Herod Antipas is much less cool now while still having an instant ability on a TC character. Herod's Soldiers' banding still doesn't make sense. Whether Herodias underdecks or shuffles doesn't change her power level a ton, so I still like the card.

Seeing as they most likely would have served along the Romans in the city it make sense for them to band to the soldiers. I don't recall any other NT WC characters that aren't under Herod's command or Roman command

So I should've kept the unlimited set aside then

I was thinking about it from the other direction; legionaries typically didn't play nice with local troops. That aside, it'd be a nice viability boost for T2.

Made it so it could only band to those from the Herod theme
