David and David's Harp

So this is my Take on a new David and David's Harp that gives musicians more of a chance to compete

Just my idea on how to make a single card version of David and make Musicians a bit more playable or at least splashable in other offenses. Let me know what ideas or criticisms you may have. I really want to see something like this made soon

I'd love it if he didn't have to earn the Purple (it wasn't killing Goliath that got him the kingship anyway). I also suggest making him Red/White/Purple as being a warrior, a musician and a king are the three things he's known as (the prophet bit could maybe be referenced in the SA if at all). Adding Red would give him access to all the worthwhile "David" Enhancements without having to give SA space to it, freeing up even more room for cool stuff.

David's Harp is tiiiiiight.

For both, I love the art. You almost never see David depicted as age-appropriate for when he was anointed or at all in between his youth and old age. Somehow seeing 30-something David in the Harp picture does it for me.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Thanks. Alot of the issue with a David reprint to me seems how to not make him OP. If you make David multiple brigades from the get go his SA has to really be monitored. I blame Samuel. I think you are right though that David should be purple from the get go and maybe Red but the SA becomes interesting. What about making him red/white/purple with a SA like "If David is blocked by a beast, giant, or a member of a royal family protect your cards from that character's SA and you may draw a card. CBN."? Thoughts?

David's Harp + AWSN + Deborah + Samson's Sacrifice = Awesome.  Perhaps the Harp should only "Instead" evil discard abilities, or discard abilities used by an opponent.

Doesn't SS require a male?

I'd be fine with it. SS is a dead card where a RA is concerned unless this whole combo is set up, as would be David's Harp unless trying to run White/Gold which is sub-optimal.

No idea if this would work or if it would be to OP but maybe you could do something like a David- 10-10, white- red- purple, every time David is removed from battle you may withdraw him to decrease him 2/2 and draw two. May not be blocked by brown royalty. Can't be negated
I thought of this because every time he fell in his walk with the Lord he always repented but also had consequences- ex- when he took Uriah's wife and indirectly killed Uriah, then can not be blocked by brown royalty because he was such a strong King- and a man after God's own heart always deserves Can't be negated. (Maybe we could switch the draw two ability to something else)
Thoughts?

I disagree with White/Gold being suboptimal if David's Harp is printed.  Moses is also a musician, and Chenaniah/King David can easily be added to an OT splash offense with a Judges engine.  And AWSN tutors/recurs Deborah, even if Naz is in play, so it's a 3-card combo if you get AWSN before Deborah.  Also, Music Leader could tutor both Deborah and David's Harp.

I think it's probably in the best interest of the game to have "Instead" abilities not work on abilities used by the player who also controls the "Instead" ability.  I can't think of a Redemption card printed that violates this principle.

+1. Opportunity cost is there for a reason. And the cards are designed to make Musicians a more playable thing so things like judges/musicians and kings/musicians would be natural themes, but not eliminate the cost of a potentially crippling card. I'll update it in a bit as well as tweak David a bit. Balancing David's SA and brigades without making him OP is not an easy task.

Just Updated Both David and David's Harp. David was updated to have 3 brigades and a different SA. One that I thought would be useful and relevant to David but not further increase the speed of a judges deck or one that would limit blockers. David's Harp was updated to reflect only being discarded by an opponent. Thoughts?

I would add "Demons" to the group David affects since his playing calmed the difficulty Saul was having with a demonic influence.

Thematically (and picture-fitting) I think David's Harp should have a "May be activated on David" identifier so he can "hold" it.

OK...now the final touch to this theme. A Territory Class Enhancement that can be played on David in relation to him playing a song on his harp. Not sure what it would do but I feel that is the last missing piece to this puzzle.

I was actually working on a reprint of david's music to reflect  this. Currently I was thinking of something like
David's Music
Identifier involves music.
4/3 white brigade enhancement
Territory class
If used by an OT musician, Negate an evil or neutral card. Protect your OT Musicians and Kings of Israel from the effects of evil cards this turn.

Thoughts?

sounds a bit strong to me. makes it like the King Hezekiah/Isaiah combo, but more versatile, and stronger. also, it protects both good and evil kings of Israel. maybe protect from character abilities, or from the first enhancement played in battle, and it could stay longer. maybe this ability could work?
"place this card on David. Set David aside. While set aside, protect Good kings of Israel from the first Evil Enhancement played in battle."

I like that! I don't think it really needs the "may be used by a musician thing". Even without it, it's only really useful if you're playing with musicians.
