Eleazar the Guard

so, i recently came across this characterhttp://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Eleazar_the_Guard_(Pi)
i originally just passed him up as a useless character who would work in very few decks, and not many people would even use him. but as i read into him, like his verse and identifiers and such, i think he needs a reprint. this guy was consecrated by priest, and charged with the task of protecting the ARK OF THE COVENANT for 20 YEARS! this guy is a beast! also, we NEED more warrior class priests, so here he is! feedback welcome!

Very cool artwork and I like the ability and the identifier "not a priest"  8) that would be a great card!

I would avoid using "not" identifiers for clarification. In this case especially because it is clear when you read the title that he is not. If you said he's not a priest you'd probably have to say that he's not a judge, philistine, or Canaanite too.

The reason that i included that is because in the verse, it does say he and his house were consecrated by priests, but he was still just a normal guy. i added teal because he was a "priest" for 20 years, even though he wasn't really one. he's kind of a stand in priest, not a real one. because teal is normally reserved for priests, i wanted to make this distinction that he is not a priest that did stuff in the temple/ tabernacle.

He could simply be half teal because he is connected with priests. Much like Damsel with Spirit of Divination is half orange even though she isn't a demon. You don't necessarily need an identifier telling people what he isn't, haha. If you don't have one saying he's a priest then he isn't a priest regardless of what brigades he has. Paul is silver but he isn't an angel, after all.

Well, i thought i'd make the distinction, because with damsel, she has the identifier human, as with the false prophet. plus there hasn't been one teal guy who is NOT a priest yet, so i just thought i should make the distinction.

Technically speaking Paul is teal and is not a priest. ;)

I totally get what you mean, though. I just agree with TheHobbit that starting a "not" identifier list will end up just cascading into places the game doesn't need to go. The Garden Tomb has "Empty!" as an identifier because it's thematic but it doesn't have any impact on the game as the identifier means nothing from a rules standpoint.

I think people will be fully able to understand that he's not a priest if he doesn't have the priest identifier even if he's teal. :P

Personally I would get confused... every other single Teal hero is a priest...

Wouldn't the correct way to solve this be to make Eleazar only Red (since he was a warrior/guard kind of dude) and add a line of text allowing him to use Teal enhancements?

That's also an entirely valid option.

Very cool card, Isaac!

I understand why he says "not a priest" but I have to agree that isn't something you'll ever see on a real card. I really like the suggestion to make him one brigade and add the ability "Eleazer the Guard may use teal Enhancements. Cannot be interrupted."

As for his brigade, that's a little more complicated. Gold is typically reserved for leaders. He wasn't exactly a leader that I know of. Red is reserved for warriors. What indication do we have that he was a warrior (and therefore deserves the warrior class shield)?

My first impression is that he would be white. That's the "catch all" for O.T. Heroes that don't fit easily into a theme or brigade. We see that with Zerubbabel. Eleanor could be another piece to help white/teal work together.
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?
