Covenant of Conquering
7/0 Silver Covenant
"If a Rescue Attempt in which no Hero had initiative and no Enhancements were played fails, rescuing Hero may redeem a Lost Soul from defender's Land of Bondage following battle."
~Revelation 2:7

Uzzah-killer HUZZAH!
-
It's in a FbtN brigade, but I still like it. I'll bet the wording could be better...
-
Uzzah-killer HUZZAH!
Problem is, Uzzah is protecting them. Unless this somehow works in the post-battle phase.
-
I'd put a limit or cost on it too.
-
Edited to get around the fact of the protection. I didn't put a limit or cost on it since it pretty much only stops Uzzah (an OP card), Trembling Demon, BBN and SSS.
-
Egyptian Warden/Otho/Zimri as well.
-
Those three all surrender initiative.
-
Ahh, right, I missed that at first. I approve of this card either way.
-
Yeah, I think you either need to add the condition of an evil character blocking or add a cost to this card, because a RA + CM combo is now a soul-winner with this card.
Also, how would this combine with Grapes or The Long Day?
-
I like the concept but it seems that the ability would be better served in a brigade that doesn't have a FBTN Hero (whereas Silver has 2 plus Consuming Fire), such as White.

Why? It's a covenant...
-
FBTN stops Uzzah, which is one of the main points of this card.
-
Woot! This would go in every deck I make, mainly because I attack, they block smaller, I CM my hero and get to rescue a LS(maybe the other half of a 2-liner ;D)! The best part is if they CM me after I drop AotL, I get to rescue(assuming they had init)! Rescuing souls because of CM!
I'm fine with that. It's kind of in the theme of CM, and would perhaps encourage defenses that aren't entirely comprised of initiative characters. It'd also be good for head games, since if you block higher than the Hero it voids CoC but leaves you open.
I had it in Silver because the verse is talking about Heaven, and I don't mind another big offense Enhancement for Silver to use since it's so bad right now.

I feel like this card is broken in ways I can't think of. I'm sure with choose the blocker, there is some broken combo you could come up with. Sounds good from what I can think of though. :)
-
It's only broken in T2, but we'll errata it anyway.

Your point? I can use a Covenant in any deck just fine.

Remember it only kicks in if you lose the RA. CTB wouldn't be able to abuse it. But keep trying to think of ways it could be broken (and say what they are...*cough*).

CtB my Uzzah. Die and I get a soul or use the ability and I'll get a soul.
-
Considering one of the main purposes of this card is to stop Uzzah abuse, I wouldn't say that's broken at all :)

You don't think it's broken to GURANTEE* a soul when Uzzah blocks in T2 via CtB?
*Other than Dom interference
-
What, no Brown Enhancements? If Uzzah's just a splash I say, good show sir! Use that to your advantage and get a free soul. When the potential for abuse comes from a super-broken card, the check isn't broken.
Basically, the whole point of this card is to make it more difficult to just splash Uzzah into any deck and get a fairly reliable easy block (2 with Torment, 5 in T2). If you find yourself being overrun by CTB'd Uzzahs from your territory, stop splashing so much Uzzah or use some Brown Enhancements.
-
Oh, no, I meant I give my opponent either my Uzzah or TD via CtB with that card active and then reap the benefits.
-
Wouldn't you just win anyway if you CTB'd a lower numbered character they had no Enhancements for?
-
Yeah. And you're right about choose the blocker... You'd either get initiative or they'd lose and you'd get a ls.
What you have to remember though is that winning the battle and having a successful rescue attempt are two different things. Burial on the ls you were going to rescue doesn't work in t2 if you have this out. Neither would sog/nj or any card that buries souls. It's definitely a powerful card... but I don't think it's broken. :)
-
I would still change it to say:
"If a Rescue Attempt in which no Hero had initiative, owner played no dominants, and no Enhancements were played fails, rescuing player may redeem a Lost Soul from defender's Land of Bondage following battle."
SOG, NJ, CM, Grapes, AotL. GG.
-
There you go. That's how you'd break it, playing dominants on their souls. I knew it! Haha
-
Edited one more time to not work with Grapes.
-
Unholy Writ, too...
-
Made another edit requiring there to be a Hero in battle at the end of battle for it to work.
