Boarderless Redemption Cards
« on: June 15, 2009, 12:34:54 AM »

Earlier this year I was inspired by fellow board member Platinum_Angel to design some alternate look Redemption cards.  One concept I like as a means to highlight the card art is the boarderless card.  I tried a couple different styles.  One includes the scripture box and scripture.  Another style is simpler and only includes the scripture reference.

Here are a couple examples:

I liked the second style best and used it to remake the cards used in the T1-2P 1st Place Nationals deck from 2007.  Some cards have the original art and others use new art.  If you’d like to take a look you can see the entire deck here and there are a few additional boarderless cards in this album.

That is actually pretty awesome. The verseless version looks even cooler, although I do like having the verse there in the current card design.

Your cards kind of remind me of Blue Moon cards:

That New Jerusalem is awesome.  I would love playing with cards like these.
Gates of Hell is by far the best card in the game.  No questions asked.

Your version of Falling Away is a little too risque.  The face on the SoG...hmm...it looks familiar.   ;)

Yeah, I realy do NOT like the art on KoT.  Actually, the original Art for KoT is one of my favorite for Evil Characters.

If you extended the artwork on your own cards, would they still be tournament legal?

are these actually extended art cards, or did you simply use the original image and zoom it in enough to fit into the entire card?

i've seen alot of custom/alternate/extended art cards done in the mtg community for years, and this reminds me of those. im not exactly certain though if the custom mtg cards are legal in their tournaments...technically, the would weigh a little heavier from the extra medium applied to the card. awesome looking cards gabe. i would pay a premium to anyone that would do these for me (especially actual extended art cards), legal or not.

im still waiting for someone to do 3-d redemption cards...those look pretty sick, and can be done easily if someone took the time to do it.

it would be REALLY awesome if cactus actually made these and offered them as uber rare inserts in packs (like, 1 per box!) or even as tournament winner prizes.

If you extended the artwork on your own cards, would they still be tournament legal?

No idea.  I think only Rob could make a decision like that.  Emailing him would be the quickest way to get an answer.  I doubt he's going to look at this thread.

are these actually extended art cards, or did you simply use the original image and zoom it in enough to fit into the entire card?

Both.  For some of these I was able to find the original art so I had more freedom to make slight changes such as extending them.  For others I had to just take a crop of the available art on the existing card.  Obviously others got all new art too.

i would pay a premium to anyone that would do these for me (especially actual extended art cards), legal or not.

I have my entire deck printed and sleeved up for casual play.  I don't think it's legal for me to sell you copies of the cards since I don't own the rights to the artwork though.

Just about every card I REALLY love, almost all of them more than the original... but kot... ouch.  ;)

I agree with y'all that KoT is pretty sick.  When I finished the project I wasn't really happy with the artwork for him or FSP.  (I had used the original Faithful Servant artwork on FSP instead of the dude with the crown.)  I found new artwork for FSP that I'm pretty happy with.  I never did find anything I liked better for KoT.  Unfortunately the original arkwork for KoT isn't available to the public that I can find.  Anyone know where to get it?
