BACK IN BUSINESS

So, I decided to rebuild my template for the new design. I also decided to build it in InDesign this time to speed up card creation.

Here is my first test card reproductions:

*EDIT* added comparison from below.

Original card:                                                                                    Attempt 1:

Original card:                                                                                    Attempt 2:

Some notes:

Sadly I couldn't find the original artwork to use, so disregard that difference.  :P

It seems that InDesign doesn't like exporting text into JPG format, so I will work on that.

I added a slight black outline around the identifier for readability. I HIGHLY reccomend cactus do this on the next set.

I left the XXVI out since most of my cards won't be in "Sets."

I like it except that it has the same drawback as some of the previewed cards from the new set: The right side has more open space outside of the art/text boxes than the left side.

Other than that it looks very nice (except for the text issue you mentioned) and if you can get those couple of things fixed I'd love if I could glomp on the template for my own card creations. (either that or I'll beg Daniel to "borrow" his :P)

I just realized what happened. The image and text boxes are both centered... within the ENTIRE document.

The background box itself may not be centered. I'll investigate.

Once I get this working well, and figure out how to make the background colors work properly, I can upload a packaged .zip of the entire thing. You WILL need InDesign to use it though and I'm not sure if there's a GIMP equivalent of it.

*EDIT*

Yep, the background box was not centered horizontally. That's now fixed.

The template looks great (oddly enough I just finished my new template a couple hours ago. I'll post a preview later)

And here's the original Solomon's Temple art.

EDIT: Fixed  :P

Round 2, FIGHT!

One thing I noticed in the comparison of these two: the original card does not have the proper amount of white space at the bottom. Mine is exactly 6 cm x 9 cm. So, my card looks slightly smaller despite the images being the same height.

I'm not trying to come down but I just want to say the light differences I see (How do you come this close XD) any way
1. The boxes are now different dimensions between your third attempt and the other
2. Pics more fuzzy and slightly wrong angle but almost perfect  ;D
3.  The fortress sign in yours is bigger and wider
4. text for name is to fat and needs to be taller and skinny...er lol
5. Your versions identifier isn't whited out so... nvm lol
6. Pink backgrounds are very different especially in how dark it is but some compare and contrast tool on it and it'll look perfect  ;D
7. both the verse print and the ability print are just a hair bolder and wider than the original(which I prefer actually idk about anyone else)
8. I think you need to put the cactus game design logo and artist in bold cause its barely not perfect in thickness so yeah!

I am just posting what I see in differences I am in no way shape or form meaning this as an insult only to give you my perspective and if you think I am wrong than you can ignore it lol ;D

Hope I helped

What do you mean?

Kind of a trivial point. Fuzziness is because of the resolution of the image Daniel provided, and angle/positioning... I didnt want to spend that long getting it perfect. "Close enough" applied here. Plus, that's not going to be an issue when I make cards that aren't Solomon's Temple.  :P

3.  The fortress sign in yours is bigger and wider
I did notice this myself, but it's not a huge issue. I may fix it later on. Once I get the full array of icon boxes in the new design, I'll mimic those exactly.

I think that's caused by the font I found online. It's close, but not exactly the same as the original. Not much I can do there.

I don't have the original background they used, and it would be nearly impossible to rebuild the entire thing. I generated my own similar looking background.

I think that has to do with the way InDesign exports the JPG image.

They actually are bold. I think this is just how the text came out when InDesign exported it.

My only critique is that your brigade box should be less rounded.

Hmm, I tried to match the corner roundness exactly, but I see what you're talking about. I'll check that out.

Just curious, does this mean you are going to be taking card request again?

Yeah, maybe not *quite* as frequent as before since I finally have a full time job now, but feel free to post in my taking card requests thread again and I'll start using my new template.

Throwing the card together doesn't take long, it's just finding the artwork that does. So, if you provide a link to the art, you can dump a whole bunch of cards in there at once.
