I also like the second version, but to "clean" it up a bit I would use "(limit 9)" in the identifier to be more consistent with other cards (see Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, Abigail (RoA), etc.). And, I think the "during battle" part isn't really necessary. The only reason I can think of at the moment that would create a discrepancy is with Moses (CoW) negating it in territory which I don't think that will be an issue.
