Player Made Cards

Why hasn't this thread been updated with the new Redemption Connect! cards?  There's a lot of really cool, really creative stuff.  I know that this thread exists, but why can't we merge the two?  It just seems a shame to have all those cards lost after new threads are created.

Probably because this section isn't effectively modded.

It would be nice to have just one thread for all this, especially since the user-made expansion seems to have died.

Should I go through the list of community driven iniatives that have failed or is mentioning the wiki enough for you to remember we aren't very good at group projects?

I figure that if I failed hard enough at this sort of thing, people would learn from my mistakes.  Nooooope.

Well, nobody is clamoring to win NE regionals next season if that's what you mean.

I'm actually planning to go to NC regionals just because I want to avoid NE regionals, and, since all I do is win, I knew I would win NE regs if I went.

Hey, how do you guys feel about an Alaskan state tournament next season? I hear you can see Russia from there.

They've already demonstrated their inability to understand the Bible, so that qualifies them for OD.

Back on the subject of playermade cards, I've trying to find every single player made card and so far have over 600 cards. I've been trying to find a place to upload them, but what if I made a thread with them all in it alphabetically?

I think the reason pol doesn't post rc cards is because people are constantly creating new ones and they don't take any time to make.

Why is that not a reason to post them?  Sure, I could walk to Nats, which would be a lot harder, and have the same end result, but it'd be pointless.  Redemption Connect! extended the ability to make cards for everyone, even those who weren't gifted with the talent of Photoshop.  Why exclude them?

This. The player-made cards thread is a relic from pre-Connect when making cards was a difficult process only a few people could do. There were few enough in existence to justify copy/pasting individual URL's into labeled spoiler tags, and there was merit enough in making a card to warrant a fancy display. I'm not going to spend half a day copy/pasting 100 random Spartans and their weapons.

So, thanks to Redemption Connect!, none of us can get our cards in the gallery?

But it is not official, stickied, or organized.  I still see no reason why we are discriminating between the two, other than mods not willing to put in the effort.

It is two of those things.

Would you mind explaining it to those of us who aren't privy to your mind?  Right now I see a select group who is allowed access to a "special" stickied thread.

Occupy New Card Ideas 2011-2012
But no seriously the kittens raise a point, and for once it has nothing to do with cuddliness.

I'm someone who has been a serious, contributing member of roughly a dozen different forums over the course of the last 3-4 years, and has moderated a few of them at some time or another. Now that said, this forum also doesn't function anything like most forums do, in regards to how it's moderated or administrated, and that's due to the unique nature of the forum, and the requirement that things be more delicately handled, since we have a community outside of the boards themselves. Simply put, being a moderator here is largely a fancy title and access to a few more features and boards than regular members. There's not a whole lot of responsibility involved, except in a few extreme cases. It is my belief that, with that in mind, if someone is going to step up and raise their hand to moderate any individual forum on this site, they must be willing to tackle any individual responsibilities that are unique to that board. In the case of Open Discussion, it's slightly more strict moderation and keeping an eye on things more thoroughly than most of the other boards. For the Marketplace, it would be making sure nobody is spamming threads with the same thing.

Here in New Card Design, I would argue that that would mean maintaining the archives of well-designed cards and keeping everything looking organized. This is probably the most unique board on the site, and frankly, it's nice to be able to go through and look through all the cards people have made over the years. With the addition of Redemption Connect!, the volume of these well-made cards has most certainly increased, but I believe that the moderator(s) (in this case Pol and RDT) have a duty and responsibility to maintain an archive that includes the Connect! cards, because simply put, there's no reason not to aside from laziness. If the moderator doesn't want to "spend half a day copy/pasting 100 random Spartans and their weapons," then I'd argue that they should step down from that position and let a responsible individual who is willing to keep things organized moderate the board instead.

I am not going to catalog every card made now that RC is out. There are two moderators that could do it, and neither of us is willing to invest the time. If you would like to be the third, by all means ask the PTB.

I support Pol in this, and would like to add that I leave most of the moderation of this board to him - I'm actually the Moderator for overall 'Redemption Card Play' which automatically makes me a moderator of every sub-board included in it. I focus mainly on the overall section, and Strategies and Combo's, and leave New Card Ideas and Game Play Variations to Pol.

If someone would like to create a thread that they maintain with all the images and have us sticky it, I don't think either Pol or I would be opposed to that.

I think there is a difference between maintaining archives of "well-designed" REDEMPTION cards, and maintaining archives of "100 random Spartans".  I would hope that Pol would be willing to go through the RC cards and pick out ones that he finds to be at least possible cards for Redemption's future, but we're NOT going to be making any Spartans :)

I'm also fine if someone else would like to create a thread to do this, and suspect that Pol wouldn't mind letting someone else contribute to the community by volunteering their time on that project.

Pol has decided to open this up to allow someone to catalog these great cards and he will sticky the thread that they make.  He has even given first shot to SomeKittens who seems interested in this thread.  At this point, I feel like this issue has been resolved, and therefore this thread isn't needed anymore.

If anyone is interested in volunteering to help with this project, feel free to post on this thread.
