An assortment of card images
« on: February 01, 2011, 04:16:06 PM »

Although I will still take considerable advice about actual card functions, I am now significantly more interested in aesthetics. I'd like you to tell me which images look best and why.

P.S. Sorry in advance for the large image sizes and thus probably slow loading time.

Thanks all for your advice and support. :)

A LOT of the wordings are really confusing and have to be changed. Some are a little OP'D like Crucifixion. Babylonian Temple, Crucifixion, Baal Worship(do you mean you get to choose when he leaves set-aside), and david's sling the most.

Babylonian Temple
-I really like the idea of taking an Artifact from an opponent.
-First sentence needs to be reworded so it actually does something.  Consider, "SA on Babylonians CBN."
-This might be a little over the top.  I would think about limiting the CBN to certain Babylonians, like only kings or only generic, etc...
-Stealing part needs to have more clarity.  Is it an active Artifact or could it be from the Artifact pile?

Anoint with Oil
-1/1 and any color Enhancement?  Way OP

Crucifixion
-Entire game protection is too much.  I would really like this card if the protection was more limited.

Baal Worship
-Way OP to set aside humans without end
-This would be great if you had to set aside a generic demon each time you set aside a human.

Jonathan Arms David
-I like it
-Change to: Take a weapon from...and place on any Hero.  Weapon is converted to that Hero's brigade(s).
-Doesn't need to be CBN because you can't negate previously placed stuff.

Moses' Prayer
-boring

David' Sling
-Not sure how SA relates to being a weapon
-Interesting SA, kind of confusing, what is it designed to do?
May you prosper greatly!

Babylonian Temple
Evil Fortress
Holds one stolen artifact
Your Babylonians cannot be negated. Once per game, if a Babylonian king is in play, you may take an OT artifact from opponent’s fortress or artifact pile and activate it here.
2 Chronicles 36:7
Temple of Dagon is already a card. You'd have to find something else, but the SA is so specific that it wouldn't make sense to be on something else. As for the card itself, the first sentence is worded improperly, the last sentence needs a search function if you're supposed to be able to take a face-down artifact, the placement of the "may" leaves a loophole for what happens if people chose to take an Artifact but not activate it, and the identifier leaves room for a lot of arguing over whether it can hold Household Idols and Ark of the Covenant.
Quote
Anoint with Oil
Good Multicolor Enhancement
Territory Class
Place on a good king, prophet, or high priest: Hero becomes 1/1, may use enhancements regardless of brigade, and is protected from conversion and removal from the game.
Exodus 29:7
Needs to be Teal, the Priests did the anointing. Very OP, and could cause a lot of problems if it is Discarded off the Hero during battle.
Quote
Crucifixion
Good Multicolor Enhancement
Territory class
Set aside a good Dominant from hand for 3 turns. On return, place this in your territory: All captured and converted Heroes are returned owners’ hands and all cards in the game are protected from evil Dominants for the rest of the game.
John 19:19
I know that the Crucifixion of Christ was a good thing in the grand scheme, but there is no way it should be a Good card in Redemption. I find it a little UP considering the cost and wait to basically get LotS, stop CM, and reset captured and converted Heroes. But UP niche is better than OP.
Quote
Baal Worship
Evil Brown/Orange Enhancement
False religious practice, Depicts an idol
Set your demon aside. Each turn, set a human aside. Characters return when demon leaves set-aside or a good Judge enters play.
Judges 2:13
Needs "Demon is set aside" after "Each turn." Super-special OP since it can set aside defenses, but if it were only Heroes it would be good.

Quote
Jonathan Arms David
Good Red/Purple Enhancement
Territory Class, Depicts a weapon
Take a weapon from hand, deck, play, or a discard pile and place it on your warrior class Hero without a weapon. Enhancement is converted to Hero’s brigade. Cannot be negated.
1 Samuel 18:4
Needs "except Silver," a little OP in that it's a TC that not only gets rid of opponent's Weapons but also gives them to you. "Your" Discard pile would make it more balanced. Other than that, cool card.

Quote
Moses’ Prayer
Good Gold Enhancement
Search deck for a healing card. Reveal a good Dominant from hand to protect your OT Heroes from evil enhancements this turn. Cannot be prevented.
Numbers 21:7
Solid, but give it some numbers.

Quote
David’s Sling
Good Multicolor Enhancement
Weapon class
Good cards with "negate" in the special ability are protected from cards that cannot be negated.
1 Samuel 17:40
Needs to be Red. Other than that, if there aren't any OP combos I'm not thinking of, good card.

If it was called Christ's Sacrifice it would be better suited as a good card. Because really crucifixion is not specific, and is equivalent to a good card called "Torture and Death".

Changes made. Thanks for the advice.

I kept David's Sling as a semi-multicolor weapon, as I really wanted it to be usable by at least one FbtN hero, as well as all WC versions of David.

Moses' Prayer is still boring...not sure what else to do. :P

The search lists should say "or," not "and."

Now and at the beginning of each upkeep phase, set your demon aside to set a human Hero aside. Characters return when first demon leaves set-aside or a good Judge enters play.
Set your Demon aside. While demon remains set-aside, each upkeep you may set another of your Demons and a Human aside until the first demon leaves set-aside or a Good Judge enters play.

Looking much better.

I really like a few of these cards but I'm skeptical overall. I have images picked out for each of these, but before making actual cards I'd like to make these a little more balanced, interesting, and theme-oriented if possible. Thanks in advance for your input.

Babylonian Temple
Evil Fortress
Holds one artifact taken from opponent
The special abilities of your Babylonian kings cannot be negated. Once per game, if a Babylonian king is in play, you may search opponent’s artifact pile and fortresses for an OT artifact and place it here.
2 Chronicles 36:7

Anoint with Oil
Good Teal Enhancement
Territory class
Place on a good king, prophet, or high priest: Hero becomes 1/1, gains one brigade of your choice, and is protected from conversion and removal from the game.
Exodus 29:7

Sacrifice of Christ
Good Multicolor Enhancement
Set aside a good Dominant from hand for 3 turns. On return, place this in your territory: All captured and converted Heroes are returned owners’ hands and all cards are protected from evil Dominants for the rest of the game.
John 19:19

Baal Worship
Evil Brown/Orange Enhancement
False religious practice, Depicts an idol
Now and at the beginning of each upkeep phase, set your demon aside to set a human Hero aside. Characters return when first demon leaves set-aside or a good Judge enters play.
Judges 2:13

Jonathan Arms David
Good Red/Purple Enhancement
Territory class, Depicts a weapon
Search hand, deck, play, and discard pile for a non-silver weapon and place it on your OT human Hero without a weapon. Convert weapon to Hero’s brigade(s).
1 Samuel 18:4

Moses’ Prayer
Good 2/5 Gold Enhancement
Territory class
Search deck for a healing card. Reveal a good Dominant from hand to protect your OT Heroes from evil enhancements this turn. Cannot be prevented.
Numbers 21:7

David’s Sling
Good 3/2 Red/Green Enhancement
Weapon class
Good cards with "negate" in the special ability are protected from cards that cannot be negated.
1 Samuel 17:40

David's Sling still has very confusing wording so if you could change that so it makes more sense. The only other thing is Sacrifice of Jesus, I still feel like the rest of the game is way to OP'D. I don't know how you could change that.

I really like sacrifice of christ's image because it just looks the way I imagined it. I still think the SA needs to be tweeked a little. Baal Worship is also cool because you have them worshipping a false god and sacrificing a baby in the glow of a sun set making it look pretty awesome. I also like the uniqueness of the ability.

The shadow behind the special ability is too far from the text, the artist name needs to be bolder, the numbers on Jonathan Arms David seem to be from BernhardMod BT, while the rest is Lucian. Also, the reference is no longer in bold. The Artist Name and "Cactus Game Design, Inc." is black on ultra-rare cards (Sacrifice of Christ). They look really good! Those are my suggestions.

As far as the visuals go, David's Sling looks best to me, largely because the text shadow is done right. However, I suggest you find a higher resolution WC symbol.

Love'm, although I belatedly noticed a problem with Joe arms Dave, it should be "equip to" rather than "place on," since placed means something different and the weapon would technically not do anything.

The image for Sacrifice of Christ is way too pristine for my tastes. Very rose-colored glasses.

Yeah, I typically don't like any pictures of Jesus where he is barely bleeding in no pain calmly resting on the cross...
