Title: Abishai, the Son of Zeuriah
Post by: Asahel24601 on February 19, 2018, 04:02:39 PM
The sons of Zeruiah are some of the more divisive characters in David's story. Joab, the older brother, is shown as a power-hungry murderer who would do anything to hold onto his command of David's army, but he always followed his uncle the king in his choices. He did what he thought needed to be done for the stability of his people, even if his view was skewed. His younger brothers are arguably less... well, ruthless. We know less about Asahel, the youngest, who was fleet of foot and more than likely desperately trying to step out of his brother's shadows. He was killed by Abner after trying to take the older man down. Joab and the middle son, Abishai, murdered Abner when the commander tried to come to David's side.
So Abishai. He's a murderer, but I don't think he deserves the same dual-alignment treatment given to his brother. The death of Abner is really the only mark against him on his ledger, and otherwise, he's proven himself to be a capable warrior and a loyal commander. He's even gone up against giants to protect David and survived. He's even listed as being given command over the Thirty.
Abishai served as both a great warrior and an army commander, and his main story is saving David's life. His search gives Red some much-needed speed besides Throne. While the add to battle can be powerful if he's banded in, it's no more so than banding in, say, Ahimelek (Who's probably who'd get added to battle half the time anyway). The protect ability holds the attention on him, rather than on those not in the front lines.

I really like the idea. I think it may have to say single brigade red hero just to stop throne from abusing it by getting David the Shepherd. Maybe not though. If it was a single brigade red hero you could even increase the draw to be a draw X. X could be something like # of your red heroes.

Just sayin it would be able to search for Children of Light and protect it in territory ;)

Single brigade restriction still makes it strong in Throne, as a way to search out Ahimelek and draw is powerful on its own. However, I'm not sure if restricting it to simply red is going to change too much (as most Throne decks run at least Ahimelek and Asahel, while some will add Ishmiah/Joab for the extra draw).
Probably, but part of the problem with Red is that Throne uses so many red cards. Adding to Red almost always adds to Throne, and it's difficult to design around that. There's no real way around that unless we somehow get a bunch of red cards that somehow don't work in Throne but do ion their own. Joshua stuff, maybe?
Either way, the card has been updated.

you could make it target O.T. Red warriors so it's more thematic
