2011 Teams 1st Place

Players: Gabe Isbell and Kevin Shride

These are the decks used by Team Iowa to win for the third year in a row. They were built the morning of the event, although they contained the basic offense/defense I'd used most of the tournament season in T1-2P. Although the decks were built to abuse Thaddeus with double Crown of Thorns, Phil and Bart were still the MVPs.

We went 5-1, losing our first game ever to "the best teams partner ever" MJB (aka Matt Brinkman) in the second round.

It looks fairly awesome, I wish I could have played it.  You can take a look at the decks Andrew and I used, the Musician/Demon/Magician deck.  We tied for 4th.

 :o

"losing our first ever". Bad adjective. "Devastating" is the word you meant to use. Or...."Humiliating". And let's be clear, it was devastating not because Matt (back stabbing conspiratorial best buddy of Wild "who thought it better for his son to get a shot at the title than his over 40 BBQ Buddy Count Fount" Bill) was involved. Devastating because of my skill in taking 3 of the 5 lost souls that Team "Dumb and Dumber" took from you and Kevin.

Now, let the questions begin about how the Count could possibly hang your skin on the wall. Embarrassing isn't it.  :- 8)

Despite our best efforts, Matt "I carry all the weight on this team" Brinkman still overpowered us for 2 Lost Souls. His FTM didn't help us much either. If I recall correctly Kevin made short work of your Aaron+Moses band when you were brave enough to rescue. It wasn't until we used all our defense on Matt "The Real Threat of Team Dumb and Dumber" Brinkman that you were able to walk in for 1 LS unopposed, then play a certain 2 Dominants to put us out of our missouri.

Sadly, it did only take you guys about 10 minutes to devastate us 5-0 in a humiliating loss... ::)

Yes, I did " -1 " your comment. Notice how quiet "The best team player ever is". Hmmm is it because my comments are oh so true.  :-X

I hope your fingers are smudging up my trophy.

If they were you wouldn't be able to tell. It just gets lost in the shuffle with the other 12 on my shelf. :P

We should ban Kevin. IIRC, he's won every Nats category he has played for the last three years.

I might post a detailed report later if I find time.
If it helps, here is a suggested outline for your report...

Before meeting the Mighty Mighty MJB:
Gabe and Kevin had never lost a Nationals Tournament TEAMS game.

After meeting the Mighty Mighty MJB:
Gabe and Kevin had never lost a Nationals Tournament TEAMS game.

Not that I did it on my own, however. The rules say you are required to have a partner. For that reason having old-what's-his-name as a partner was just as important as adding a copy of Pot of Manna to a 49 card deck.

Congrats on the three-peat.

MORE PROOF! And what one card got "Old Mo Bacon" through his first round of the Local "Mild" Bill Type 2 Tourney this year? HMMMMM? And what "old-what's-his-name" gave him this idea for the PoM in his otherwise worthless deck? HMMMM?

Way to go Matt and Craig.... I mean Gabe and Kevin.  3 in a row is very impressive.

Ben Arp may have to find his way back onto the scene so we can challenge y'all in future years for an official title. :) (not that we did very well in the past when it was an official event)

I realize I never sent you an update email that I ended up deciding to pay off undergraduate debt first before potentially pursuing other degrees (such as a law degree). I ended up taking a job at a healthcare software company in Wisconsin. Thanks for sending me the info about jobs in Missouri though!
