2014 T12P 3rd Place 'Flexbone'

Hey Guys,

Here is the deck-list for Flexbone which I ran this year to a third place (8-2) finish at Nationals.

I also entered a card for card copy of Chris Ericcson's Genyptians deck, but didn't play it a single round.

Cards in deck (51):

Lost Souls (7)
Revealer
Wanderer
N.T.
Female Only
CBP
Punisher
Resurrection

Dominants (7)
Son of God
New Jerusalem
Grapes of Wrath
Angel of the Lord
Vain Philosophy
Christian Martyr
Destruction of Nehushtan

Artifacts, Fortress, Sites (5)
Hopper
Holy Grail
Unholy Writ
Rain Becomes Dust
I am Holy

Heroes (11)
The Strong Angel
The Angel Under the Oak
Captain of the Host
Simeon
Gideon
Ehud
Moses
Samuel
Aaron
Phinehas, Son of Eleazar
King David

Good Enhancements (6)
Angelic Guidance
Pentecost
Samuel's Edict
Eli's Sound Advice
Zeal for the Lord
Ehud's Dagger

Evil Characters (9)
Scribe
Proud Pharisee
The Entrapping Pharisee
Hard-Hearted Religious Leaders
Pharisees
Emperor Tiberius
Emperor Vitellius
Lot's Wife
Foreign Wives

Evil Enhancements (6)
Pretension
Sorrow of Mary
Balaam's Disobedience
Scattered
Tenants Kill the Son
Stone of Thebez

It's a very similar list to what I ran last year The offense became more and more focused to Judges/Silver while still retaining the strong Teal splash. Ehud was one of the first cards in, and he's amazing, should have been in here all along. Unholy Writ was one of the last cards out last year, but with people moving away from banding again, it deserves a spot. RBD > Gifts and Decree since people also moved a little away for TC drawing. I removed Birth Foretold, which I have always been a huge fan off, in favor of an additional evil character (Hard-hearted) I found sometimes I was having difficulties triggering Proud's draw. I didn't miss Foretold once during the tournament, and Hard-hearted's band was extremely useful, and once forced an opponents misplay since they didn't realize they couldn't convert him in territory.

I would totally run Urim and Thummim in this deck.

Justin,

While I agree, it's already a really, really tight list, and I have multiple other ways of looking at my opponents hand while doing things beyond simply looking.

That said, U&T is card 1 or 2 on the short list to add.

I would consider dropping TSA and Guidance to add U&T and Jephthah.

I'd be curious to know how often TSA won battles that Captain couldn't (i.e. they had a negatable banding option).

Tournament Report:

Round 1: Ray Imgrund (5-0)

Ray is a young player, but skilled, definitely a name to keep an eye on for the future. His deck was solid and seemed well constructed, but he did make a few gameplay mistakes that allowed me to cruise fairly easily to a 5-0 win.

Round 2: Chris Egley (5-1)

Chris has come a super long way since 2006 when he placed last in T12P. His deck was strong, and he played a defense that most people thought was dead, so it surprised me at first. However, I think my deck proved why that particular defense should remain dead, and I came up with enough blocks to win this one.

Round 3: Nate O'Neill (5-0)

Due to an odd pairings quirk, I got an RLK this round. a modified starter deck will not do anything to my deck. But in his defense, he got a really cute block on my TSA turn one with Controlling Demon.

Round 4: Jerome Beers (4-5)

Jerome to me is very similar to James Roepke, he's an extremely competent player, who some people know off, but nobody really things of when discussing top players. His deck ran the most popular offense of the day, but with a couple neat twists to it that presented a couple of problems to me. I simply couldn't come up with enough blocks, and potentially let him get a block against me when I could have done it differently and gotten a soul

Round 5: Douglas Weber (5-3)

Douglas ran the coolest deck that I played against. His meta-tech was awesome, and if not for a slight misplay on his part, and him being able to draw back into an under-decked Son of God, I would have lost this game very easily.

Round 6: Blake Maust (5-4)

Blake's deck is wicked fast, and if not for the unfortunate aspect of running the same defense to allow me interbanding, he probably wins this game. I think I went first, and I'm fairly certain that's what it came down to.

Round 7: Zac Cornell (5-4)

Zac ran a similar deck to Blake, but his list was a little weird in my opinion. That said, the game was eerily similar to the one against Blake.

TOP CUT:

Round 1: Chris Egley (5-0)

I got a rematch against Chris as the number one seed in cut. This game was the same as the first. That defense simply cannot do anything if the opponent gets an early Holy Grail.

Round 2: Nathan Voigt (5-3)

This game still frustrates me a little, so I'm not going to talk about it. That said, I'm pretty sure I made a mistake on my last turn that cost me the game anyway.

Round 3: Chris Ericcson (5-1)

Chris got an awful draw in this game. When I play VP on turn two and don't underdeck NJ, something is wrong. Chris also misplayed slightly allowing me to use his own soul-gen against him to win potentially earlier than I should have.

Based on how you wrote the second to last game, am I correct in assuming it should be a (3-5) score instead of a (5-3)?

He's referring to the "hopper" lost soul from kings, but doesn't include it under Lost Souls because it doesn't count towards deck building requirements, so he added it to the "other" category (even if he didn't label it as that).
