Deck is pretty stereotypical. I took out Andrew, 4 Dolla Holla, TGT, Centurian’s Proc, David’s Triumph, Gomer, 12FG, and something else right before the tournament. Added Passover Hymn and Faith as a Mustard Seed to make it 50 cards. I didn’t care if I had to rip a Plot, because I would be playing Trolololol most of the time anyway. Never had to rip a Plot though. Played out really fast every game, and has a record of 6-0, just out of fun games and the tournament. Special thanks to Sauce, Hobbit, and MKC for helping me cut things out of it.

  Destructive Sin

My pride and joy. Most people were rooting for this deck (other than their own), just because a Turtle deck winning nationals would be awesome. They didn’t care about me, just my deck. I changed it a bit, as I had Gomer and Plot in there, but was told to focus the defense more for the early game. Cut Zaccheus and Meeting the Messiah, as well as Intent to Kill. Added Wrath (not sure why it wasn’t in there before…I had precious few heroes, I guess). Added a couple of artifacts and some other stuff that I really don’t remember. Thought about adding sites, but figured they wouldn’t come up fast enough. Huge thanks to Mr. Hiatus for giving me the idea (kinda) and helping me out with some of the deck building. Also need to thank MKC, Hobbit, and Olijar for helping me talk it out and throwing ideas around with them. No thanks belongs to Sauce, who kept telling me it was a dumb idea and would never work.

T1-2P: Trolololol
Round 1: Lorenzo Kopari 5-1
Before this round, I saw Lozo walking around and I was chatting with him while others started walking towards the pairings. Come to find out, we had to play each other. I had grabbed my disciples deck so I could jump ahead in the competition, and then switch to Trolololol once it’d be all disciples or TGT. He was playing TGT and…magicians? I never saw much of his defense, and I’m trying to remember what he said it was. I started with a couple disciples and a Matthew (I think…) and walked in for a few. I don’t remember much of this game…we were the first ones done that round, so we got to continue our original conversation.

Round 2: Payne Norlander 5-1
Almost switched to Trolololol, but was convinced not to, and I’m very glad I didn’t switch. He was running Genesis/Assyrians, and I roflstomped him.

Round 3: John Nesfeder 4-4
Switched to Trolololol because I knew there was a chance I would play MKC. He got a first turn Mayhem. He was running disciples, so I was pretty confident. I was able to stop him early on, although he did get one soul. Near the very end of the game he nabbed another one. He was kind enough not to stall me out, but I took too long on one of my turns, and the judge said to finish the round right as I was about to end my turn (and Nesfeder started). I was very happy with a tie though, MKC is a great player, and he had an FTM, which is enough to kill a deck like mine.

Round 4: Kirkland Wilson 5-2
Stuck with Trolololol because it worked well once, and I still hadn’t lost. Kirkland said he’d stall if I discarded all of his heroes, so I was a bit worried, but he was young and I said if he did I’d call over a judge, and it’s not cool. He played fast though. He was running TGT/Romans. I got rid of most of his characters by negating all of his stuff, and he was able to get a Chariots off before I could A-Bomb/Mayhem or get Philly Priests or Hezzy’s Sig Ring. He searched for Transfig with Consider the Lillies and goes out. I block with some Philly, and of course he plays Transfig. I drop a Bringing Fear/Wrath of Satan. He had nothing left. I walked in for the rest.

Round 5: Tim Maly 5-4
After calculating who was close to me, I knew there was a good chance I would play Tim. I played him at state, and he legally stalled me out to a 1-3 loss. I didn’t want that to happen again, so I decided on my disciples deck this round. It was a good choice. He got a few souls, I ended up converting my Ammy Slave so I could ignore his Foul Spirit and KoT with Peter, using his TGT. FTW.

Round 6: Neil Johnson 3-3
Trolololol deck. Neil is a great up and coming player. A bit young yet, but he’s pretty good. He was running a TGT/Site Deck, and it was the first of sites I had really seen. I had to play Land Dispute early on to block a rescue, and he had CP early. I Bringing Fear/Wrath’d all of his heroes, and he had nobody to use Chariot with. I made a HUGE mistake to cost me this game by putting down both Ahimaaz and Joiada. He Land Disputed my access site (because I am stupid and didn’t AoTL Armorbearer after he used Outpost…all his evil characters were dead anyway) I couldn’t A-Bomb/Benedictus his CP because both of my heroes would be set aside when the draw triggered, and he was already decked by the time I got what I needed, so Gen Widow wouldn’t work. Playing SoG on the shuffler wouldn’t work because I had FBTN out. I was able to Benedictus to get one though, after discarding his entire hand with Gen Widow so he wouldn’t have CM.

Round 7: Conner Margus 5-3
Trolololol deck. I didn’t know much about Conner, but he had been at the top for a long time, but I was too, and I knew he was playing disciples. I was able to completely shut him down with King Amon/Goliath’s Armor with Gates out, which I got luckily early.

Round 8: Matt Townsend 5-3
Trolololol deck. We were the last two undefeated people, although I had two ties, which is equal to a loss as far as points go. He was playing Red/TGT, and I was worried because Red is great against Phillies, and he obviously had a good deck and was a good player to be on top after 7 games. I was able to hold him off until my defense was set up, and I slowly started picking him off. He made a great move and converted his own Philly Garrison to red to play A Soldier’s Prayer to search for Faith in our High Priest. He then started bombarding me none stop with it, recurring it twice with A Soldier’s Prayer and Consider the Lillies. I’m pretty sure this is the game that the site guard was used with Goliath, which saved me one of those, while I was able to Magic Charms the other. I Bringing Fear/Wrath’d him FTW.

Round 9: John Earley 1-5
I knew I was playing John. I don’t know how, but Olijar convinced me to play Trolololol by saying “Don’t flip a coin for the nats win.” I should have flipped the coin by playing disciples, and I knew it. I knew he would legally stall if it came down to it, and I would either get a time out loss or a loss, as his deck was very fast. I ended up playing Trolololol anyway, and only drew a Wrath for the first couple turns. He just walked through. I got nervous, made a rescue, and then next turn he rescued with TGT and played Falling Away. He rescued with Mary/Salome, and I blocked with a Goliath from hand instead of just using Charms. He drops a Lydia from hand and plays He is Risen! I play SoG to get one before he drops SoG/NJ FTW.

Round 10: Martin Miller 5-3
I thought I was going to have to play Isabelle, and I was worried. In a stunning turn of events though, I played Martin, so the pressure was relieved. I had faced Martin at MN state and lol’d at his deck. It was FBTNB, and I was Phillies with back up for when he used David’s Mighty Men. I think I Bringing Fear/Wrathed him FTW. He had a chance to win in a time out, but I don’t remember what it was. Regardless, it was a weird play and he didn’t think of it until after the game.

Final: 3rd Place with 24 points and a +14 lost soul differential, beating Prof U by 1 point.

Type S:
I’ve been fairly successful in this category, taking second (I’m pretty sure) the first time it was offered at the T2 only. I hadn’t had much practice this year, at least, not compared to previous years, but I was fairly confident, considering the competition probably hadn’t had as much experience as I did. Type S (A category) was not good. I blame using Warriors, although they’ve always been good to be before. I almost tied for first with a bunch of other people, but made a bit of mistake in preparing for it on my second run, and things went to the wayside, quite literally. Type S (D category) was much better. I had never liked foils, but after my first go, I was feeling confident. It had prepared me for the second, and things worked out great, and I ended up in second place. I nearly had a heart attack when I thought Nurge had taken first, bumping me down to third, but it ended up being a practice one that I saw. I decided to try a practice one of my own and ended up doing almost as well as the greatest Type S player, Wild Bill, who showed his mastery once, but removed himself from the category for being too good. Challenged him to a one-on-one match, but we never got around to it. Lots of fun though, always great to play the best category at Redemption tournaments, and I’m sorry to see it’s not swept across the nation yet.

We ended up having virtually identical character spreads, except I have herods in as extra. Your enhancement choice was better though, so I got troll stomped by Sauce and you third placed. Good work defense!

Di is top tier, just not as top as TGT.

They caught Trolls Keyward in there at deck check, and made me take it out. I guess you're only allowed to have so much trollage in a deck before you're no longer protected by the law if you are attacked by your opponent.

I would have thrown in Pigs LS.
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

I would have thrown in Pigs LS.

The one possible downside to Pigs LS in a WS deck is that if your opponent has Bronze Laver in their deck, they can continually place evil cards beneath deck (and subsequently not draw, since it is prevented) and therefore they will never "deck".

This plan wouldn't work for just anybody but you're crazy enough to pull it off. Well played, Andrew! Congrats on stepping it up when it really mattered and taking 3rd at the toughest tournament of the year. I always knew you had it in you if you played your best. :)
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?
