With all the hubbub of "set rotation" and some discussion on Discord, I keyed in on what Gabe had said on Discord, "Ultimately “rotation” isn’t rotation at all. It’s the introduction and support of a new format with a smaller card pool. The direction of the game has always and will always be heavily influenced by the fan base. If the players don’t like/want a fresh format then it won’t succeed or last. Nobody plans to force any rotation/format on the game."

Firstly, I firmly believe Redemption is in good hands with Rob and the Elder Team.

Secondly, I can think of no other similar game that allows, emphasizes, asks for, listens to and appreciates input from the Redemption Community in open discussion.

With that being said, I would be supportive of a "New Format with a smaller card pool". The bigger questions would be what would it look like? would it be added to the 7 current formats or would it replace some? possibly a "New" T1 and/or T2 format? where would the cutoff be for included sets?

What say you, Redemption Community?

The “long term” plan for “rotation” is to have constructed formats where only cards on the new card face are legal.

We're exploring and supporting LoC only constructed T1-2P play as described by Gabe above this year. After we see how that goes, we'll determine how to proceed. It is likely that eventually, if things go well that we'll have a format that is "new card face" which would start with I/J and Tin 26, and include everything after that.

For tournaments the host is able to choose which categories they want to host. A current example is how hosts can select either 2P or MP for booster draft. I imagine that will hold true of any new formats as well.

So, for this coming "testing" season, a Host could have a choice of T1-2player, T1-Multi, T1-TEAMS or T1-2player LoC... or something along those lines? with special promos being offered to Hosts who choose to run the LoC category?

That sounds correct. The LoC only category will offer a special participation promo in addition to the normal tournament participation promo! Hosts can choose from 1 of 6 options when registering!

Category options or Promo options? I would lean to the Promo option...
Without seeing behind the curtain, it can be a little tough to see this vision/direction for Redemption. It is exciting nonetheless. I venture to guess this is the most anticipated set ever to be released.

There are 6 LoC only promo cards going to print. A host will be able to select 1 to offer to the LoC only players when they register for the tournament. Think of it like when a host selects from a pool of “Local” promos for hosting a local tournament.

RE: RNRS, it’s been discussed but not decided. I’m fairly certain LoC booster will default to booster RNRS as normal. I’m not sure if LoC constructed will have its own RNRS or if it will be rolled into T1-2P.

Sounds good... will wait impatiently to hear what is decided... Just want to ensure the Idaho group heads the right direction... We have some really competitive players here and are excited about the upcoming tournament season...

In the coming months we plan to support and promote LoC only formats such as booster draft and LoC only constructed 2-player (similar to T1-2P rules but with only LoC cards). There will be special promos offered for those 2 categories.

If a LoC only 2-player category is offered, how are Doms and LSs to be handled? Obviously if it is strictly LoC cards then run with what we have... or will Dom and LS slots be up for grabs with cards outside LoC? just wondering....

Only LoC Doms and LS will be used. That means you have 2 meek LS to choose from to fill out your deck, or up to 6 SA Lost Souls be LoC and the 2 LRs. No deck will have more than 4 Doms. A format without SoG/NJ/TSC/AotL for free rescues.

smacks a little of Type NW... a Dom-lite category? yes, please!! I would venture a guess that Booster Draft would still allow outside Meek LSs? and if you draft LoC LSs you can substitute.

Absolutely. Normal booster rules apply (which currently allow all packs from just 1 set) which include bringing 7 meek Lost Souls before the drafting starts.

I would also tend to believe LoC LSs will be slightly more common to support a LoC only constructed format. Otherwise, they may become rarer than frogs hair and fetch a pretty penny.
