Type 1 "Different Deck" casual tournaments?

What about a tournament type where you know in advance how many rounds will be played, and you must bring a different deck for each round?  But here's the catch, when I say "different", I mean that not one card (including dominants and special ability lost souls) can be the same within or between all of your decks!  Meaning, for example, that if in round one you pulled out your super deck with all the dominants, awesome artifacts, and your favorite seven lost souls, your other decks for the other rounds cannot have EVEN ONE of those cards you already used (with the exception of generic lost souls).  It would force variety in strategies, and perhaps make people split their dominants and other great cards between several decks.  So in a 3 round tournament you're bringing a minimum of 150 different cards to play with :)  Also the host and/or judge should have a good supply of non-special ability lost souls for anyone who needs more.

I would also suggest using the honor system for deck check-in, to avoid a judge having to check dozens of decks.  We may try one and let you know how it goes.

The drawback to this format would be that new players would not even have 250 cards to be able to play in a 5-round tournament of this type.  However, for advanced players who have a ton of cards, I think this would be a SUPER interesting way to play.  It would lead to a LOT more variety of games, and would reward versatility of gameplay.  Love it :)

Super cool idea. All these fantastic ideas are floating around, I just wish there was more actual implementation or enthusiasm for actually playing. My Type Testament had a lot of excitement, but only ended up seeing a few games played. I'm thinking this will probably be the same, but I hope not.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

I thought of this too.  You are correct that it would be a type that only players with larger collections could use.  But then again it seems Type 2 is practically this way already, and also has some additional rules too.  It might also be prone to Cactus' endorsement because it requires players to buy more cards :)

Actually ROOT has recently created the option of having 1 week a month with ideas like your Testament idea Pol.  I think some of these cool ideas will actually get some play (although this one would be harder to enforce in a ROOT format).

I'm in favor of anything that causes more creative decks.  I'd be interested to see how the dominant spread goes.

I'd find this interesting, I would make sure you say "Except Generic Lost Souls" though.

You could also do the same thing for T2, but it would require more cards.  (minimum of 500 for a 5 round tournament)

I think it'd be fairly difficult to figure out how to spread the "staples".  There's quite a bit more luck involved.

I added what you said about "except generic lost souls", as that seems reasonable.  Part of the reason I stayed away from Type 2 would be deck check-in, but as I stated - for casual play you could just use the "honor system".  Most people in our playgroup though don't have 500 different cards for 5 Type 2 decks.  Besides, would Type 2 still be interesting if you were still limited to one of each card?

This isn't a good idea at all. I'm sorry I don't conform but not shareing any cards at all? That would make for stupid gameplay IMHO.

If you want to use it for T2, you'd probably want to just say none of your decks can share cards, not that you're limited to 1 copy of each card for the tournament.  You could also do that for T1, and allow large (100+ cards) decks.

What do you mean by different?  Could you have Orange KoT in 1 deck and Gold KoT in a different deck?  What about Red David Kings vs. Warriors?

By different I mean cards of the same name.  So Gold KOT and Orange KOT would not be a workaround.  Same with POTW.  Like I said, the goal of this type of play is to see multiple types of decks used, thereby getting folks out of their "comfort zones" of using the same deck/same cards all of the time.

I think this would be a great test of skill... it'd also be REALLY interesting to see how people would divide cards like aotl and sog/nj, cm, grapes of wrath, chariot of fire, uzzah, and cards like that. I'd be extremely hard to make only offense-heavy decks because all your speed cards, as well as sog/nj, wouldn't be allowed next game.

I would drive to a tournament just to play this. I think it's a fantastic idea. Let's hope some application comes from it.

I think Cactus should include an "experimental" category.
