Booster Draft RPG!

How many can play: 3-5 people.
Length: The entire tournament season
Awesome? Yes.

Okay, so you play a booster draft. You then keep that deck. Following the next booster draft, you can add any of those cards to your original deck. This continues until the end of the year.

You could also add it for the next booster, instead of following. You could also say last place gets some sort of pack, or you can add prize packs to your deck.

It wouldn't require people to come to every tournament, but the more you attend the better.  The main problem is that you would almost have to leave your decks with a completely unbiased person.  As much as I hate to say it, people would be tempted to add a card or two better each tournament to make their deck slightly better.  I know this is a "Christian game," but don't ever underestimate the desire of people to win!

To keep an even footing, it'd require you to come to every tournament. Otherwise they might have 320 cards to choose from and you might only have 240.

Whose fault is that?  :-*

Although, if somebody wasn't there, you could say that you can't add that draft to your RPG deck.

This sounds like a really good idea.  My playgroup and I might start this up, I've got 5 guys including myself who tends to add booster to every local tournament we do.

If it's RPG you should have a theme to go by every week or so to keep it interesting. Like only N.T. or O.T., something like that if it's "role playing'.
Visit www.Facebook.com/DeckMetrics for deck analyses, even for other games

There is no "ignore" card?

It's really not "role-playing," but as you play, the better deck you'll get. It's kinda like starting Redemption all over again, except only playing booster draft, so everybody's on the same level. It'd make for a fun side-project if you're tired of beating n00bs.  ;)

Couple of questions about how you would play.

Would you start with the 10 packs from the tins?  Or would this "cripple" creativity?

Would you only be able to use cards that you put in your deck for the 2nd tournament, or would you be able to use any of the cards you drafted?

Would you have to use Type 1 rules?  The first time or two it shouldn't matter, but by the time you get to 4 or 5, you could easily have 5 or 6 Unholy Writs in your deck with all the TxP & Disciple packs.

Now sure what the specifics of his vision was. But for the first question, I'd assume it'd be whatever boosters you normally play with. We normally play with Women-Apostles-Patriarchs-Kings-Priests-TXP-Disciples, so we'd use those every time.

Number three is a good point. Unfortunate too, beings having few deck building rules is a major part of booster. But I'd agree: you don't want me to have 3 FAs, 5 Writs, and 2 Grapes by the end of the year.

I did think about this as well, but you would have to do a double booster the first time.

Or just keep normal booster draft building rules the first time and use Type 2 rules thereafter.

That goes back to if you can only use the cards you play with or all the cards you draft.  If you only use the cards you play with, most people don't use much defense (if any) in booster, so the second time around you would have to basically only draft defense.  I guess if you knew the rules that would be your choice but, just saying.

It could always be left with the tournament host, if that was ever determined to be a problem. However, we'd probably notice if somebody showed up with an awesome card that they didn't have for booster. I would trust our booster group members.

So Ring Wraith, since this is your idea, what is your thoughts on these questions?

I don't like tin drafting. It's really up to the group though. As Sauce mentioned, we normally do Womens (although I'm guessing we won't next year...), Apostles, Pats, Kings, Priests, TexP, and Disciples. I've never actually tried this, so I'm not sure what works best.

I would say any of the cards. I would like this not to interfere too much with the tournament. People sometimes take a card just because they need it for their collection, and thus people can take a card if they need it for their RPG deck. If you made them have to have the cards in their deck, it'd mess with deck building of the tournament. Again, I've never actually tried Booster RPG, so it's hard to say.

I hadn't thought of that, and I'm really not sure what'd be best. I think T2 rules would still be a bit too much, so maybe two of a card? I can't think of a time I've used three anyway.

What we have done is done all 7 of the avaliable booster, TxP & Disciples.  We are going to keep all of the cards we draft each time, and just keep adding cards and making decks.  The only real problem I see with this, is that deck building will take longer the more times you play, but hey this is fun and never been done before.  As far as deck rules have gone, we have kinda taken the middle ground from Type 1 & 2.  Here it is:

1 Dominant & Multi-Colored card
2 Artifacts, Covenants, Curses, Fortresses, Special Ability Lost Souls & Special Ability Sites
3 Single Color Hero, Evil Character & Enhancements
X Single Color Non-Special Ability Sites, with X being the number of sites in your deck, obviously this also follows the you can only have the number of sites = the number of lost souls.

This is how we are doing it, but obviously this is going to be different for each playgroup based on how you do your things!
