Tron: Legacy (Spoilers)

Just got home from watching it.  If you geek out with the first one, you'll love all the referances.

Tron himself still kicked people around like nothing and they also dived deeper into the discs this time.

The only down side, imho, was there was way too much talk about religion/evolution.  Other than that, I enjoyed it (the line that got me geeking out the most was "This is the end of your line")

The cameo from Daft Punk made me laugh (since they fit so perfectly into the tron world)

What scene were they in?  I had never heard of this group before this movie.  I liked the soundtrack so much I'm on my way to buy it at lunch today!  Cool movie too!

If you've never heard of Daft Punk, search for Interstellar(sp?) 666.  They made a movie out of one of their albums and the movie is a great watch

Finally got around to seeing this just this afternoon.  When we saw A Christmas Carol last year in 3D, it was mostly because we had a gift card, and we wanted to see what all the fuss with 3D was about.  Since then, there have been only two movies where I thought to myself, I HAVE to see THIS MOVIE in 3D.  Avatar was the other one.

This movie was a great visual piece and great in 3D.  The use of a lot of black and clear surfaces with sparse, high-contrast color created a great look and probably allowed them to cheat on making some of the CGI material blend in with the real actors.  The soundtrack was great and the numerous nods to the old show were great.  I especially liked that when those programettes gave Sam his identity disc, they described it using the precise verbiage that Sark had used in the original.

I also liked the way they took familiar icons from the original and gave them significant updates.  The lightcycles are much more sophisticated, which made for a nice battle sequence, and the Recognizers bring much more function to their design.

The story is not terribly different from the original movie, updated for a modern look and audience, which is to say it's somewhat basic, has a couple plot holes, and really seems more like a set piece for the visuals, than the visuals being the set piece for the story.  But for all the nerds who ate it up 25 years ago, they'll be back for more, and loving it.  It seems that Disney recognized those nerds who loved Tron now rule the world and have all the money, so they're resurrecting a cult franchise and looking to make it into something bigger.  There is already a cartoon reportedly in the works, bridging the time between the two films, with Elijah Wood featured prominently.

So it's not Oscar material, apart from the stunning visuals and maybe the soundtrack, but it was a great popcorn movie, a great nerd movie, and a worthy 3D experience.

I saw this movie with my family on my birthday, and I thought it was schweet. I brought China Jack and Germany Jonas, both of whom said they did not like that kind of movie, and both of whom loved it. I don't think this is a movie I would want to buy until 3D TVs drop in price significantly, but it's still fantastic in theaters.

Maybe becuase I didn't go to the "best theater in town" to watch it in 3D or IKve gotten used to the effect that it's more of a lanscape view than just stuff being thrown at you but I thought the 3D wasn't that good in this movie.  When I thing of 3D, I thing of A Christmas Carol.  Again, I might be used to it or was too focus on the action to notice.

One other possibility is that it might have been more subtly employed, something designed to enhance the visual style of the movie and not just do a lot of wooooOOOOOOooooOOOOoooo gimmicky shots.

Yeah, I was pleased beyond measure at the lack of super gimmick shots. They used the 3D as it should be used... to help immerse you in the world they created. I love how the IRL scenes were largely done in 2D only.
